First time I can remember seeing one in the wild - looked like a slightly rubbish rip off of a Maserati, but that’s the price of diversity...
Ah, the Allante! I remember the bodies were built by Pininfarina in Italy and shipped to Detroit to be mated to the powertrain and finished there at a fairly horrendous cost to Cadillac as GM had shut down the production plant that would otherwise have made them. Looked great but given that they were trying to compete with an R129 Merc 500SL with 300bhp , this had a 4lt V8 with something like 150bhp – skin/rice pudding….generationx said:

Very cool - link?Had a good chat with the owner. Nice guy and the car is fantastic.
In brief ....
He's owned the car for some time. It was running a Rover V8 and rotten so he and a friend set about the project. It took 4 and a half years quote " round the side of my mates house " .... MR2 Turbo wheelbase usable with the Escort and that's what's underneath. MR2 wider so the bubble arches were used. The engine is said to be from a Celica GT4. Suitable wheels tricky with the 5 stud hubs from the Toyota - the ones currently fitted are from a Civic.
I didn't get any underside or engine bay shots at the time. Its not been in any of the magazines yet but is sure to be sometime soon I would imagine.

That is REALLY nice ,good reg too BRM ,shame about the Q.
Q plates are pretty rare, so whenever I see one I wonder what the story is behind it. Usually something peculiar like this has happened. Unlikely these days to be a cut and shut as that doesn't tend to happen any more. I do wonder how many cars have them, it can't be that many.lucido grigio said:

Q plate is only way it's going to be legally registered in UK now, given its no longer a MR2 and its not an Escort. With DVLA/DoT tightening up on its application of BIVA/NIVA the Q plate will likely become more common, as only route for anyone looking to do such a project in future.
