What car is it, out of interest? When the 240 gets registered, it’ll be an L Reg and it’ll have reflective plates probably, unless I go for those silver and black ones seemingly made from lines, not sure what you call them ... metal plates for a ‘72 car, while legal, just look a bit wrong ...

wobble

Just about to meet something coming over the brow on the wrong side of the road (or 'hopefully' turning into the pub?)
No. Just about to follow another vintage car, on the correct side of the road, and heading up the hill
Now, I know my eyesight is not what it used to be, but that 'vintage' car heading 'up' the hill. What is it?

I only said it was coming over the brow as it looked like a 'front' white reflective no. plate and a pair of headlights and the car being at an angle like it had just driven over from the other lane.
I looked at it again and I've blown it up and I'm none the wiser.
If that's a 'rear' shot, I can't make it out at all.
No problem but I'm genuinely interested to know what it is (surely if it's vintage it would have black/silver digit plate? Or perhaps it's a kit car? But then if it's a rear shot, a 'yellow' reg plate would be evident wouldn't it? I'm confused. What is the 'white' oblong strip is if it's not a rear no. plate?

Please answer. Put me out of my misery, it's now driving me mad! biggrin

yes

Alvis Doctors Coupe with the Dicky Seat closed.

1931 at a guess.

You've no idea, have you?

No.

You're assuming it's British; European cars have different coloured plates. Also, unlikely but there is nothing to prevent an owner putting current coloured plates on an older car..

Indeed.

Looks a bit like a VW Type 181, with maybe one of those 'German font' plates....???

Many thanks! A nice succinct answer. beer
Glad I waited for a correct answer before jumping in again.

Looking at the rear plate I suppose the distance blur makes it look all 'white' when it's in fact the white letters/figures.

We all have our own special areas, for me it's the late 50s on. Not that I'm uninterested in vintage and veteran cars, I am. I even have a copies of the Clutton/Bird/Harding pocketbooks and Boddy stuff for reference.

But then I don't always get the time to peruse the many books I have in my possession - at some points I had in excess of 20,000 books, but there is good reason for that! wink

Great picture. That DB4 was my car of the day, although the Espada ran it close.

This was yesterday, though I've shot this car a couple of times now. It's a lovely thing.

(But I would still have an Espada first!)

Indeed.

DB4 has always been my favourite Aston - even going back to childhood in the sixties at the height of DB5 Bond fever.

DBS V8 comes in a close second.

Silver & black with reflective lines, aka 'engraved' or 'mirrorline'.... two different fonts are available, the 'rounded' style like the ones on my last P5B, or the 'squared off' sort on my last P6B...;)

I just like seeing correct period plates on old cars, rather than some modernised version....just me though laugh
For a '72 car, I have a proper set of raised plastic on pressed metal like these.
