Fair point, when I saw the video I figured it was probably something special but wasn't sure if it was a road car with a bigger spoiler. But colour changes weren't so uncommon back then - I recall seeing photos of a Nogaro blue car on the net somewhere.

I was looking at that earlier and it's fascinating for a number of reasons. Some of the places haven't changed much at all judging from Streetview.

Spotted by Fourfoldroot Junior this morning in London. I'm not the only person in the country guilty of 635 abuse!

Also I think there's a video of Hannu Mikkola driving a silver road car up Shelsley Walsh some years ago. As for why anyone would repaint - well, it was a bit different when they were £35k.

ETA - Hannu at Shelsley: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z91JEloD1D4
That wasn't a road car, that was a full works Sport, reg number DMN 44, that Hannu had used for the early rounds of the 1986 British Rally Championship, prior to Audi withdrawing after the Grp B accidents in '86.
In July '86 Audi went to Shelsley Walsh with the big Auto Unions to commerate the 50th Anniversary of them competing there in 1936. As such, that works SWB was painted Auto Union silver for the event for Hannu to attempt the closed car hill record, which he duly smashed with a time of 29 point something seconds.
That car is now owned by renowned Historic Rally competitor Steve Perez, and is restored its full Audi Sport works colours and FiA Historic Spec as per early '86.
This is the Audi owned by Steve Perez. The photo was taken years ago at a test day at Blyton.

Save for the modern Beemer in the background, the colours of that photo make it look entirely period!

You have to love the Capri. Even standing still, it looks like it's oversteering.

A gaggle of TRs in the hotel carpark in Whangarei last week. Must have been a meet on as I saw about a dozen others (TR 2s, 3s, 4s, 4As etc. and an MGA) cruising around the town later in the day

Really, how has it come to this ?
The concept of understated elegance in automotive design lost to ostentation.
(I'm willing to forgive the black number plates in this instance).
