I was told that the 420 sold more examples in its short production life than any of the other compact Jags.
Not too sure about that, the Mk2 models (including the later 240, 340 and Daimler 250 / V8s) ran to over 80,000 between 1969 and 1969, my guess is the 420 only managed a few thousand between 1966 and 1969.
25,000 S-Types and only a few hundred under 10,000 420's, which is not surprising given the 420's production run was a mere two years between 66-68.
You're right of course - what I recall hearing was the number produced per month, rather than the totals. Just checked Skilleter .. 9800 420s were produced in just 23 months (425 per month). The most numerous compact Jaguar was the MkII 3.8 with 30000 in 95 months (315 per month). Impressive numbers, not sure whether the 420 numbers include the crinkle-cut variant.

..and a few more.

Not sure whether these old barges would be termed a classic, but I haven't seen one in such good condition for ages.

Good plate on the Volvo and the R reg SAAB 96 in maroon was one of the last UK cars, rate to see a rubber bumper car, even in period.
Column change was a bit old hat in 76-77.

Oh and the red one is a 2 stroke as the V4 wasn't available with the 'bullnose" on this one.

The garage I worked at registered one on an S ,was told it was the last, could have been BS.
I Didn't start there till 79 but saw the S reg car for servicing for a few years.

I've seen a S plate one at a Saab OC show back in the early 2000's.....seem to recall it was a *** 96S number.

From the photos that does look as if it was better-attended than the event back in June.

Just noticed that this one didn't upload, a B, C & RV8 together, with probably the oldest car in the background

June meet would have been the TR boys & girls rather than PH

I nipped down to Santa Pod this morning for the Mini In The Park show, lots of the usual stuff as expected (mostly modified '80s and '90s classic Minis) but I was pleased to see one of the original Mokes from 'The Prisoner' freshly restored...

It usually wore a 'TAXI' sign over the number plates but occasionally appeared with its own reg' number...

I've just bought a recent dvd issue of the series, even though there are only seventeen episodes I realise I've only seen ten of them. A spot of '60s indulgence is in order wink

amongst the later classic Minis down at 'Pod was this '63 Mk1 in fetching 'Fiesta Yellow', it was not a popular hue at the time and is difficult to capture accurately in photographs...
