Is it a LR "thing" to padlock the bonnet ? I thought it was the whole vehicle that was attractive to ne'er-do-wells
The bonnet lock prevents the engine from escaping. The 2.25 is a bit like a male dog.

The original had a very expensive conversion where it was "coupe -i -fied" with a raked rear screen.

but it's not a lister is it? It just looks like a normal XJS. Now I don't doubt the body mods were expensive, however.

I agree with you! Tatty yellow bodykitted regulation XJS with some Mercedes AMG alloys.

i'd be intrigued to know what it is - it's not horrible to my eye, and it could well be something else that's interesting.

It's just an XJS with a bodykit. Nothing more, nothing less.

well that's what i thought but was prepared to be open minded. I could easily tell it was not a Lister though.

Ha! I took that photo, and a friend of mine finished up buying the car. It's actually quite a nice 70's yellow, seemingly less garish than the modded one above.

Or with the saturation turned up somewhat:

It also has this redeeming feature:

All of a sudden these look so good and I'm sure will be a great future classic... Years ago I had a very early1975 one in primeose yellow.

For years, the XJS's looks were derided and I never understood that. It was always beautiful to me, up until the facelift when, whilst it became a better car, it lost a lost of the design detail.
