Loved my 3.6 XJS, it was such a cool caddish car in grey with magnolia leather. Sounded and looked how a Jag should. cool

Hated my 4.0 XJS, just felt like a bloated golf club cruiser. frown

Never brave enough for a V12. hehe

I'm guessing Jaguar dragged out an early prototype test mule XJ6 from storage to use as base for the XJ-S concepts in the early 70's?
It could well be, or perhaps an old plate they had knocking around, or even taken off a Mk2 / S-Type / MkX in the car park, the development budget wasn't exactly generous in those days, according to Norman Dewis!

What a vision of '70s glamour it is too, some would no doubt disagree with that but whenever I see one it instantly conjures up the full jet set cliché in my mind's eye, Martini and Cinzano Bianco, wafting down to Monaco with a smooth V12 up front and not a care in the world.
I've had the same image, a lot of which came from the brochure for me at least. I recall when I was a kid, walking back to Chester railway station after a day out, popped into Henlys for a look around and the salesman gave me the brochure which, if I recall correctly, was exotic because it had some pages made of tracing paper, and a slip cover. Still got it somewhere.
That's the one... wink

I'm assuming that this is a kit car, but it was parked up today in Nantwich.

Always had an interest in these - obviously the real ones are way out of reach for most of us!

I note this car sold on ebay approx 6 months ago for a goodly sum !

Couple of stately old S Classes owned by a neighbor of mine. Gold one is a 500SE and a daily runner, the silver 300SE never moves.

Possibly doesn't count as a car.

Apologies in advance John, but look if you dare... biggrin

Ha! I took that photo, and a friend of mine finished up buying the car. It's actually quite a nice 70's yellow, seemingly less garish than the modded one above.

Officially called Yellow Gold.

March 86 makes the 300se as one of the first ones. "Gold 500se" is listing also as a 300se

thumbup PistonHeads: detail matters

Someone here once described these as being a bit like TVRs, ie having a lot more power than grip.

That's just the standard "old Mini" look - Popular with Mini owners since the early 70's! hehe

(And it's nowhere near to being: "VERY rusty" - Not by Mini standards! wink )

I had a girlfriend whose brother had one.
I bought it back from a local football match for him once.
Only problem was you couldn’t select reverse gear and I missed a turn. I had to go miles to get back.

I've just remembered one of my teachers at middle school had one, previously she'd had a 500 but fancied something a bit more 'swish', it was dark blue with the Cromodora alloys, next to the usual Nissans and ratty old Mk2 Cortinas it looked very chic.
