Prior to becoming a republic in 1971 , Sri Lanka was known as Ceylon. The first car registrations took the first 2 letters of “Ceylon” and then 4 digits – CE XXXX. Once exhausted, it moved to “CY XXXX” and so on. After CN 9999 it moved to “EY XXXX” (this A40 for example), then “EL XXXX” and eventually “EN XXXX” before being replaced entirely in 1956.Indeed your spot on
Are also a Sri Lankan?

Either Keith Richards or Ronnie Wood had an early XJ-S in signal red. Keef had a later one, a TWR Jaguar Sport version circa 1989 that was rescued and restored a few years ago.
I remember the XJ-S coming out, seeing one or two not long after and thinking they were incredibly exotic and glamorous.
This ... as a kid I thought the E-Type was terribly old fashioned and the XJ-S looked like the future.I remember the XJ-S coming out, seeing one or two not long after and thinking they were incredibly exotic and glamorous.
As a result of which I now own something that is appreciating at a slower annual rate than I spend keeping it going rather than something worth more than my house
Loving the assorted pics and facts on here recently

(As an aside, there's a superb track on the 1995 'Sound Gallery' loungecore album called 'Jaguar' written and recorded by John Gregory in 1974, sad old fart that I am I often listen to it in the car on the way to or from work and the image of an early XJ-S wafting its way across Europe in search of dry Martinis always comes immediately to mind.... it's on youtube if you dare )

"Listen, darling, I am trying to read this fking wiring diagram. Either stop wittering or fk off back to your mother's!"Today’s shot of the local - not seen the Mercedes before but it looks like a 280 CE - happy memories of a 1970 250CE in the early nineties which was a bit of a step up from a 1969 Vitesse - electric windows AND fuel injection!
Anyone know what the car peeking out from the cover is - I think Singer or Riley? Another long term car of Theo the owner.
