This thread is fascinating, I have followed it from the start plus I know Hotel du France well.
The one thing this thread has demonstrated is how crap people must be at spot the difference puzzles!
Totally - I love a good mystery. The one thing this thread has demonstrated is how crap people must be at spot the difference puzzles!
Even though the answer was given in 2014 as probably a small French Coachbuilder, I'm still (occasionally) trying to come up with a definitive answer

If you look at both photographs, you will see the tree monster in your photo (1964) has grown across the wall/face of the hotel, to the edge of that window.
We could assume therefore that the mystery photo is somewhat older than yours, depending on how fast ivy grows in mid-France.
Of course the ivy may have been cleared away at some point, and your photograph is the older one - but that's doubtful.
ETA the 1964 photo also has a number of skylights in the RHS roof in the Square, so that is clearly later.

The number 1 on the door is a clear give away that it’s a a race car, supported by the dings at the front and rear. There must be race records for the possible years in question.
