Great thread, I'm on my fifth Range Rover as a daily driver having owned an '89 3.9, three different P38a's and my current 2002 3.0 TD6.

Always drawn back to the original / classic version though!

As a point to note, I've seen some nice examples of the classic coming through as Japenese imports. Climate and general conditions seem to be very kind to vehicles out there so well worth considering as an alternative to restoration if you don't mind an import.

I've spent the last few days driving about in some God awful motorhome. Collecting it, driving it to Goodwood, driving it back and then returning it today.

Relevance? When I climbed into the Rangie and drove away, the Rangie felt like a taught, low slung, powerful sports car. It was most weird.

Reminded me of spending a day at Silverstone driving TVRs that the guy who had just sold me his Griff had set up for me. I left the circuit in a Rangie and as I turned into the first corner to go over the bridge it felt like the car was going to topple over. The journey home felt like trying to steer a rubber dinghy in a storm.

Plenty of classic Rangie stuff at Goodwood. Spent some time looking at the Bishops 4x4 car. Looked nice and also the JLR cars.

That's a bit harsh..yes its the wrong radio but the car looks sensational..and a real labour of love.

Obviously put a huge amount of time and effort into restoration as it looks stunning. Ad talks original spec, shame he has used the wrong decals on the bonnet and tailgate, plus non SE didn't have pin stripe or colour coded alloys.

I need to put the lettering back on my rr. 94 lse. I now recall looking at them that some kind garage removed the tailgate ones and gave them back to me less the letter G. Great.
So short of buying a bonnet or tailgate with a set on, which I may do, where might I find spares?
They are the raised grey letters, stick on not pins. P38 ones are very similar but not quite the same size.
There is a guys in the states selling them, not cheap though;

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1987-1995-Range-Rover-Clas...

I didn't need to buy them in the end as I got away with just reprinting the bottom half of the tailgate. I had to replace the Vogue decal to the right of the number plate. This wasn't available as a raised decal and I couldn't buy it as a sticker at the time. We took a photo of it and used a web site that allows you to search for a font using an image, it identified the font and had a sticker made by a local graphics company.

At first glance it seems a lot of weight slung at the back and I'm not sure what would happen if it were punched in the back?

If all the ICE drivetrain has been removed then why wouldn't you make a huge, flat battery carrier to sit in the ladder chassis?

The ultimate change would then be to remove the steel body and replace it with one made from CF!!!

Thanks for that, not cheap as you say but an option. Nearly bought a bonnet that had the correct letters but it was as rusty as mine and the insulation had suffered the same airbox explosion as mine in the past so in the end not worth it. Less than those letters mind.

While we are on the subject of lettering, does anybody have the correct measurements for the placement (height & width) of the Range Rover letters on the tailgate please.

Saw one of Bishop's Rangies at The Revival and decided the tan leather Trevor had done it in was ideal for my car. Trevor mentioned there was a third car being done in the same. I reckoned it was yours?

Did you get some pics of the interior that you could post up?

Thanks, Steve

Recent works. Not seen seats fitted yet. Lots of these are taken in poor light conditions but give an idea. The leather is v close to County Tan. Charcoal carpets. Engine should breathe a bit better now! New master cylinder, brake lines and Defender 110 calipers are on. Rear seat belt mounts welded in. Going to leave the CSK wheels as shown- just new tyres. Ride has been lowered by 1 inch and Old Man Emu Nitrocharger dampers have been fitted. Excellent work by Twenty Ten. I'm expecting to be collecting it in about a month

Sounds like a good combination, I'm looking forward to seeing the pics when finished. I'm twelve months in, and about a month away from only a rolling chassis/body being done. smile

Not seen in person yet but I am delighted with the seats based on the photos I received today. Trouble with choosing from a small swatch is its hard to visualise- I was worried they might be too dark but in fact exactly what I hoped for. Slightly later seats as I wanted the headrests and armrests front and back.

What I've tried to do overall is take the best of later Rangies whilst keeping true to the look and feel of the classic lines of the early 4 door. E.g. 4 litre but still carbs, R380 gearbox but still "long stick", e.g. Seats, e.g. better brakes

Should be driving it back from Redditch in 3 weeks
