Nice.

How long since the a/c had a service & a regas?
Mmm, not since I’ve had it which is almost 10 years. It’s also done about 7000 miles in that time so a/c hasn’t been high on the priority list. It was pretty good when I first got it but less so now!

Long story short: this is my new 92 3.9 Vogue Plus cloud9
I‘m sitting in the train to get my other car back, since I drove home the Range yesterday from the other end of Switzerland.

I took with me the whole documentation of my new car and it turns out I gave driven this very car over 5 years ago already redface

In fact I was offered the same car at the time for a fraction of the price. I declined. For the better! Because in the meantime the whole car has had some minor rust repair and a full respray.
Dampers, springs, brakes, all bushes and other stuff has been done in the meantime.

I probably paid less now than if I had to get all the above done myself, so all good biggrin

Congrats, looks like a great buy there.
I'd lose the side-steps personally, but that's just me.

Good to see this thread is still alive and well!

My RRC is nearing completion of major rust repairs (inner wings, sills, boot floor, tailgate etc) and almost ready for paint and reassembly but I have a few queries for our resident panel of experts:

- Should the bonnet slam panel, inner arches inside door shuts and outer sills be satin black or body colour? Looks like this might have changed sometime between 1989 and 1991?

- What type/font/colour should the tailgate decals be? Assume silver with 'VOGUE SE' in capitals but can't find a definitive answer from a quick Google.

The car is a Plymouth Blue 1991 Vogue SE. Any help much appreciated!

First two photos are 'before', the second is 'during' after initial disassembly. eek

You could work your way through the details/brochures/pics on this site:
http://www.range-rover-classic.com/Home/land-rover...

This might help with the location of the decals:

Hi, my 91 has silver flat lettering. Can take pics if helpful. I highly doubt they are original but they are how they should be I think

On another subject has anyone changed their headlights to something with more power than a candle? I don’t want anything too ‘Halfords’ but coming back from NYD’s lunch and I couldn’t see anything on dip - comically bad and I’m sure worse cos daily has proper headlights.

Cheers

Lots of options for better lamps from those for the Defender. I went for the youngest type before they went blingy with the glass design and they're a definite improvement.

The Philips ultra bright lamps work well with standard and clear 7" headlamps. Dipped beam is as good as main beam used to be.

My old 89 3.5 had black shuts etc. My 91 had body colour. I think they moved to body colour with the 3.9 engine.

That's the other thing. Well worth fitting a relay if not already present.

I have lists of the various colour/trim options but I can't see any reference to the colour of stripes/decals.

It does state that the VOGUE SE (all upper case) decal changed to Vogue SE (upper & lower case) in December 1991.

The switch over dates for trim bits on Rangies can be really wishy washy and I've always taken the view that if the car was either side by a year there would generally be no one who could tell you definitively that I was wrong and that I should opt for what I personally wanted.

Probably worth visiting www.range-rover-classic.com and looking at the images for each year either side to get some clues.

I'm pretty sure the slam panel was black until G or H reg but even then it could have been spec related with basic models remaining black? Mind you my 1990 commercial import was all white.

My 1989 standard Vogue was black and I had a gold K reg Vogue that I think was colour coded.

Agree ^^

The lists, for example, show that body-colour wheels were only std. with some colours, others had gunmetal wheels (certainly in some years). I'm not a great fan of the 'ooooh no, that's the wrong colour washer for that year' approach and, in any event, the companies were happy to change spec. if they had supply issues on the production lines or release special editions if they wanted to clear old stock.

Think it might have been for the 1990 model year, it predated the change in fuel filler position.

Yes, it was 1990 with the 3.9.

But no-one will ban you from Pebble Beach if you go black - and it will be easier/cheaper to paint in the subsequent rust repairs.

Everything else between years is a lottery as DA says.

Thanks folks. Dumb question- why do I need a relay?

No (or minimal) voltage drop to the bulbs and less current heating up the switch.

12v electrics suffer a lot from voltage drop with high loads: too much current (amps), too much resistance (cables, switch contacts, etc).

A relay provides a direct, shorter path from battery to bulb; the interior switch lasts longer, as only switching the rely trigger current (tiny). Sounds like nothing; can frequently produce noticeable improvements.
