How was Drive It Day?
Discussion
Initial notion was to go to Fyvie Castle (NE Scotland)for a walk around and lunch. However the weather intervened and despite attempts to head for better weather we had to stop and put up the hood on the XK 120, which is tricky at the best of times and awful in driving hail! Then we went to a local and very alternative café where we discovered that they had a few classics due in the afternoon, so decided to go home and return later.
Sky meantime getting darker, but decided to go anyway, wrapped up well in best boilersuit, scarf, gloves etc. The first time I've driven the XK in blizzard conditions, so drove very carefully - not that there was much option as the wipers didn't cope, but at least the lack of sidescreens meant I could reach round and sweep off lumps of snow! However home safe and woodstove on. All in all a grand day out but a bit more exciting than planned!

My "Drive it day" pic's are in the other D.I.D. thread. Have to sympathise with the weather and the wipers tho'... the wipers on the NG are only about four inches long but seem to cope if you're going fast enough! The ones on the '36 Austin hot rod just gently meander across the screen until the wind catches them, then they flip upside down and catch on the roof... I've found that using helmet visor treatments can help, the rain/hail/sleet/snow tends to bead and run off that much easier. Glad you had a fun day!
We had a great Drive It Weekend. We left Chesterfield after lunch on Saturday and followed our usual A38/A5 route south to arrive in Shepperton for a 7:00 pm dinner.
Then to Brooklands Sunday morning to watch the cars coming and going - about 75-80 in all. We meet the very friendly owner of a pre-war Rolls Royce who spent half an hour showing us his car then was equally interested in our Riley 1.5, a super chap.
We left just after 3:00 pm and saw loads of classics on the drive back, getting a wave from most drivers. Apart from torrential rain as we drove through Derby on Saturday the weather was dry though overcast at Brooklands. We drove 367 miles and the car ran like a dream - the best Drive It Day yet!
