I had a model one as a child. Forerunner to the Yeti and no doubt many modern day 'crossover' type vehicles.iambeowulf said:

Either they didn't get the credit they deserved, or have become forgotten since their heyday. Like the Aston Bulldog, or 1984 Corvette. Which other cars would you add?
Wingho Concordia II concept VW based, and used in Black Moon Rising.

This needs to be a pinned thread, I loved the Matra Rancho as a kid, I had the Corgi one in green as I remember, A friends dad used to have a Renault Fuego "French Porsche" as he always used to say and I still think the Maserati Shamals bonnet mounted spoiler was the best thing in car design and definitely in need of a come back, awesome car.

I hope you stabbed your friend or at the very least his delusional dad. French Porsche!

the D1 was a classic rangey rebodies to allow 2 fold down seats in the boot and/or a lower price point than the increasingly luxurious Range Rover product while retaining full on seperate chassis coil spring high articualtion Land rover DNA ...

Always fancied a Reliant Scimitar SS1. Perhaps not the best looking of cars but they drive very nicely. I have not seen one about for a while though.
There is a good reason for that!!!!!! My local garage in Suffolk has had one for sale for at least two years and a sorry thing it is too although road worthy I understand, I thinkl that says it all.How about the Toyota Tercel 4wd?
Crazy Japanese advert? Check - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BFhzWyjnIhA "Happy Choice!"
Indestructible? Check - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dENUYo1ce_U
Fugly? You bet:
It had switchable 2wd/4wd and extra low forward gear, a totally pointless clinometer (was only accurate when still) and wasn't half bad as a first car to chuck all your mates in and go on a road trip.
I seem to remember What Car awarded it runner up in the 1987 for best 4x4 behind the Range Rover, third place was held by the 4x4 Panda.
