Well, since we are talking BL, I really can't see Triumph appearing as a bike . The grey matter is still cogitating. Earlier I mentioned the Austin Rolls Royce VP, but it could be a Westminster or a 1100 variant or - I don't know. If it is cheap then that rules out so many cars today. And I ate my Snickers (Ice cream bar variant) while cogitating.

The problem is this:

We are definitely looking at BL output from the 70s, but bear in mind the fact that a decade may not know that it has ended until a year or two after it has.
Which I interpret to mean it is an early '80s example of a car prevalent in the '70s. That rules out a lot of cars on which speculation has arisen.

It wouldn't be an Austin 3 litre would it? Late 60s carried into 70s?

If it is '60s into '70s I would put my money on an ADO16

''An Austin Ambassador Y reg...'' ...?

No, doesn't resemble the aforementioned RV-esque Allegro thingie.

I do like that Austin 3 litre though, there's a faded red one parked up outside a garage near the viaduct just south of Leamington Spa station, the view from above is rather heady.

I hope that I was not overhooning like a wazzock when you spotted me near that terrible pub.

Today, the Dolomite has done a round trip of about 500 miles. It went to Devon and back, and mostly behaved itself, although it flipped a fuse about five minutes before we arrived home, taking out indicators, tacho, fuel and temperature gauges. Oh noes! Massive fixage action needed tomorrow!

Very few classic cars spotted today, although a fair few VW campers, and several stanced and cambered and otherwise sceney nineties and noughties Japanese and Bimmers, presumably coming back from some Barry Show or other. Best spot of the day was a groovy orange Renault 4. Also two well scruffy Pug 205s (not GTis).

Why go to Devon? To look at a potential purchase, that's why. The potential was realised.

1980 Sherpa Campervan by Autosleeper. Two litre O Series petrol engine, single SU carb, four speed non overdrive manual, rear wheel drive, 100,000 miles, MoT June 2017. Sleeps two plus two. Cooker, fridge, hookup, awning, many cupboards, two spare wheels. Collection next Friday.

Given BV's eclectic tastes I suspect the LDV guess might be the nearest...so I'm thinking something really left field like a Sherpa motor home conversion, or even a J4 (shudder)!

Both of these staggered into the '80s, just.

Or maybe a Marina Sun Tor conversion.

If it's any of these, you need to get your head straight, sir!!
We have a winner!! The prize is the half eaten remains of the Twix bar.

Oh dear god, at least we can be thankful you have not become a fully fledged caravanist.

Now you have a future of st weekend breaks emptying the porta potty while smiling at mavis from bootle as you pad from camper to breeze block ablutions.Followed by a seemingly endless journey home at 50 mph being overtaken by irate Audi and bmw owners.

Still it will look cool at glasto and even better on your second night of your first camping trip as you rock up at the nearest 5 star hotel after mrs BV has threatened to de-ball you if you dont take her to a clean hot shower and a bed with decent Egyptian cotton sheets.

As you might tell i have some experience of motor homing be it in new zealand it was still difficult with the little woman in tow. the second time we toured new zealand it was conditional on hotels minimum 3 star and with spa facility's if possible

We are already booked to park the van outside Prestonfield House in Edinburgh. Sleeping in a van? That's for plumbers doing 90 in the outside lane of the M25.
