Bringing this thread into the new decade.

Still no closer to an answer but continuing the line of discussion above...

Posted previously, I can't help but this car that Edmond Pery created before Apal has something about it that is reminiscent of the mystery car:

I have been digging into the Apal side of things, and whilst I can't find anything definitive (surprise surprise) I have found a few interesting images of cars that he made in the late 1950's (including one with removable T-tops).

Yes, the features (fins, wraparound screen etc) are common for the era but I still feel it worthy of a post.

There is something about the overall look of the cars that is reminiscent, plus he was clearly a talented chap who built quite a few one offs (including a mysterious gullwing that I cannot find any images of).

Can't help but think the mystery car is almost like a missing link between the early cars and the Apal Coupe (wishful thinking!).

Again, nothing but speculation, but it's all good fun.
Thanks for your interesting post. I'm in France at the moment in the Monte Carlo Classique with a poor connection. I'll study your reply when I get back home.

I've been to ACA a couple of times and intend going to it on 4th April.

Since they now won't be allowed to open the cafe or the food stall they usually have, I expect it may not go ahead. They don't do online bidding. frown

ACA won’t go ahead I’m sure. Too many people in a small space. It might force them to look at putting it online in future though ...

I wouldn't say that fan was sidedraught, but the setup is certainly, err, exotic. That looks to be a Ford sidevalve engine (Ford 10, Anglia, etc.) with the distinctive top hose attachment point - until 1953, that engine had no water pump, relying instead upon thermosyphon circulation.

That looks to be a standard Ford fan - see this for instance:

so I'd imagine cooling must be, err, marginal....

Sure I saw a Lotus Eleven with a similar rear one-off folding hardtop entry arrangement in a book once, seems a great idea.

Sorry I missed this post. That pic at the bottom has a definite "feel" about it; the shape of the side windown and rake of the roofline etc. even if the other details are diffeterent.

Is Edmond Pery still around to ask? There are some pictures of him from about 5 year ago looking not-so-great in a mobility scooter.

I've googled a bit about Pery but a lot of the stuff is in french, but it does say an early effort was a small gullwing coupe but no pictures.
Edmond Pery, I'd like a look at that album.

Oops, just fell down the rabbit hole. Even looked at stuff for the Salon auto de Bruxelles in 1962 where it was apparently shown.

Apal is a small scale automobile company originally from Belgium. It is now based in Germany.
Glass-fibre specialist Edmond Pery founded this small automobile manufacturing company in Blegny-Trembleur (Liège), Belgium in 1961. Pery presented his first model, a GT coupé with gull-wing doors, propelled by Volkswagen or Porsche engines at the Brussels Autosalon (or Salon auto de Bruxelles) in 1962

Kinda fits, as it's been said how low the bonnet on the mystery car is and what engine could have got under there. Rear engined would fit the bill ...

Gullwing you say? scratchchin

Not rear engined with the seats that far back and no sign of any ventilation in the rear end.
