A lot of our younger readers might have blindly accepted that "fact" !

Ah bugger that's probably where the error originates...

Anyway, after scrabbling around in my old man's archive for an hour or so for these images, I should have expected PH to criticise me for something.

Good find anyway! The English Wikipedia article has last been edited 25/09/2020; it could do with a correction. Wikipedia in other languages have the same error, or don't give the wheelbase value.

The only Wikipedia article that gives the correct wheelbase, ie. 2286mm is the one in German language:
https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Eight - and even even cites a source.

The Model Y wiki lists the WB as 90", as does the one for the post-war Popular; as others have suggested I think it's just an error being repeated.

The quoted source on the German wikipedia entry is Eric Dymock: The Ford in Britain Centenary File. Dove Publishing, Torksey 2011, ISBN 978-0-9554909-3-4, S. 59.

His quoted wheelbase is the same as Johnnytheboy's 1937 Autocar road test, 2286mm/90 inches.

They are both reliable sources, so I would agree that the 78 inch wheelbase is just a typo that's been copied.

If anybody wants to have a go at correting the wikipedia entry (after all, how many more mystery car investigators will fall into exactly the same trap as us otherwise?), then they can quote the Autocar article as their source.

I don't know what I missed, but if anyone is suggesting the poster known as Unsorted was behind the Alf Garnett Bournemouth post, I can happily refute that as I drew his attention to the post before he had read it. hehe

He's surprisingly sanguine about it turning out to be true, even though he is convinced it's an Alpine, to put it mildly!

Are these posts coming from threespires' account actually coming from him, as they don't sound like the man I know?

I've e-mailed him, and had no reply so I'm not even sure he's even on his computer whilst this is going on.

I received this on another web page that I use. It seems my previous posts on here from an hour ago have been removed. Hopefully this will remain now that details of the writer have been removed. Comments please.

Yes Borrani, we have emailed. Sorry, did I miss a message from you?
And yes, posted earlier but my message was removed, presumably because I showed the senders details.

Just wanted to confirm that it really is you posting. I'll confirm this on here as soon as you reply to my private e-mail account.

Thanks.

Hi threespires,

thanks for the e-mail.

I don't recall you saying anything derogatory about anybody, ever!

The strongest statement I recall you making is that you didn't subscribe to the ******* ****** theory. I don't believe that there is any law against having an opinion.

I've been accused of copyright infringement and of plagiarism by, I believe, the same person, but when I challenged this, he did not (could not) provide any evidence.

I would suggets you e-mail him directly (so as to have a record of what has been said) and ask for details of exactly what he believes you have done or said that he has an issue with, assuming the message is indeed from him.
