These ads (especially the last one with the National Service chap with no phone number) remind me of my Father's story of buying his first car.

No phone numbers; the ad just said "come to such-and-such farm on Saturday at 11 am." My Father arrived early to find no vendor, but another potential buyer. The other chap asked "do you think he'll take £9?" to which my Father said "that doesn't sound a lot," whereupon the other chap left.

The vendor arrived shortly after with the car, said sadly "oh, you're the only one here" and asked for an offer. My Father offered £6, which the chap grudgingly accepted.

My Father - a deeply moral chap - has felt conflicted ever since smile

wow, still not found?
got the url via that other thread, so much knowledge on this forum and we still can't find what it is, or what mix of cars it is.

spot in the picture who's looking at that lovely blue sportscar...

and? did you spot who from all those people? thats also a little mystery, nowadays many spotters would kneel down to take pictures of it, ok those days camera's were a bit more 'luxe' I guess.

I still do not know what car it is though, looked through many old Britisch brands but... nope, still not, but always nice to see what pops up as also special cars in this thread.

Also a gullwing car I did not know of (just like some I've seen posted in this thread) is this Marcos Gullwing... and even more interesting this

or this, it says (Marcos) luton gullwing.

I have commented before that the behaviour of the people in the photo is odd.

Compared to the normal traffic an alien spaceship is attempting to turn out of a side street. And yet not a single person is giving it a blind bit of notice.

However I'm no conspiracy theorist. This is London's West End after all where weird stuff happens more often than most places and people are used to it.

Someone formerly of this thread has been very busy on his mission to prove the car in question was a Sunbeam Alpine... (as far as my sneaky phone pics of his PC show)

Scanned in street scene of the location in question...

Images matching the mystery car's dimensions derived from the above to an Alpine...

So he's still wittering on about his Alpine theory then.
He sent me some threatening notes on another web site.

Should we call somebody, or is he essentially harmless?

No problem, he's harmless.
He was unhappy at his images being shown elsewhere.
Which is OK, he has that right.

Especially when the poster had the reg number and the badge above the radiator grille to work from.

Especially when the poster had the reg number and the badge above the radiator grille to work from.
And when most car enthusiasts would know what it was anyway. smile

still no one who knows what car it is?
it must be rare, maybe a one off or so.

got a new classic youngtimer carbook of all sorts, and thought (all little pictures with specs) maybe its that one, never heart of it or forgot, a mismaque squal ... a what? so looked it up for better pictures on the web, and... nope, no way.

so what is that blue-ish mystery car with butterfly-ish doors.

If nobody knows after 7 years and all the resources that have been thrown at the 'problem' I suspect we're never going to find out.
