It certainly is amazing that after 7 years on these pages and the worldwide attention from other places we are no closer to solving the mystery of this attractive coupe.
It's been a fascinating and at times a frustrating journey.

Still think it's Sunbeam Alpine based, prototype or concept/design study vehicle or a one-off special. It's a direct match if you lay it over. If someone had one I could take photos of I could "prove" it, it's way too close, would love to be shown otherwise. In the meantime I'm slowly making various 3D models of it. Fruitless if nothing concrete ever comes forward but interesting imo, I'll hopefully get something worth looking at on here soon.

A Norwegian fella appears to have (not really) made one for himself out of an MGA:

I like that. I've had 3 MGA's over the years, all were coupe's.

I'm quite certain it would steal the attention away from just about any million quid car you'd care to park it next to!

Shades of the Arnott Climax GT around the haunches, there.

On another note, just found this image linked-to from Google Images, allegedly in this thread, but I can't find it and don't remember seeing it before:

Can anyone jog my memory as to what it is?

Ah, thanks, yes, found it; fascinating reading.

By the time that photo was taken, I think the body had been swapped onto the DBR2/1 chassis (the timelines are a touch unclear), but either way a very curious thing. Original body mods by Paul Emery ("Emeryson", Twickenham), then subsequent uncredited mods including the addition of gullwing doors.

Anyhow, no further forward for our mystery car smile

Nope, but I'm still having fun. Every few months I'll see something to lead me down another google-image rabbit hole.

A new drama series started last night on Sky Max called Funny Woman, starring Gemma Arterton. It's set in 1964 London and there's lots of period footage including clever CGI work where Arterton is included in the footage. (There are errors - Hillman Hunter in 1964?)

I found myself spending the whole hour trying to spot the little blue coupe. Is this going to send some of us a bit gaga?

After spending (wasting) several afternoon's reading this thread I have concluded that the book publisher asked his/her art department to ' put something in that blank space on the junction'

So a youngster drew up a small blue car.......as a bus would have been too big.......

I have spent a lot of time looking into this and reached much the same conclusion.

If that's the conclusion, and it was indeed a 'blank space' to be filled by an artistic youngster, why are the pedestrians deviating to the right and not walking straight across that junction - were they drunk?
And just to add, for a 'youngster' to draw up a small blue car with that sort of detail, I hope he progressed on to a greater artistic career.

It is tempting to think in these terms. The problem is not knowing the provenance of the original image. The book didn't use AIUI original imagery, but instead a wide source of archive sources. If one could track down the original image, it might tell us something about its provenance.

As for the vehicle itself, every time one thinks there's nothing left to find, along comes another previously-unknown vehicle. Pre-internet, a lot of stuff really did happen under the radar, as it were. There weren't even heaps of magazines - things like Custom Car didn't arrive until 1970, and whilst CCC was older it would only feature a few cars per month, for instance.
