The most glaring differences between the mystery car and the Unipower GT is that the Unipower GT have its whole cabin pushed so much further forwards relative to its real wheel imho.

Your absolutely right, but the basic shape is very similar, could it possibly be an earlier product from the same designer. If you look at almost any vehicle designed by Guigaro or Bertone they all have some of there trademark lines about them.

IMHO the platform for the mystery car is a MK1 Sunbeam Alpine. Rear fins and the wheel arch profile do it for me. I think this is an attempt at doing a flip front and a gullwing hardtop. There's a vague memory of seeing something like this connected with Ogle Design.

If it uses an Alpine chassis/floorpan, then the seating position is all wrong. The driver is sitting so far back he's almost on top of the rear axle.

...and that bonnet line is just too low for the Alpine's engine.

No way it's an Alpine, it's too small. I still think it's Spridget based

Again the seating position is wrong. The occupant of the puzzle car is sitting with his back in line with the rear wheelarches, which suggests to me that maybe there is no differential. This points to a fwd car.

I have been looking at the Speedex Sirocco as a possible platform for this build. It was available with gullwing doors . Admittedly this mystery car is totally different but could possibly have used the mechanicals and chassis.

I don't think that is the driver in the car you think you see. I know it looks roughly like a profile and a collar etc, but I think that is a reflection in the glass of the buildings behind the photographer's right shoulder ...

Here is a rear three-quarters view of the IWR Elan, just to give you a closer look at that very distinctive vent which it shares with the mystery car.

To be honest, it was just an excuse to post a pic of another obscure slice of 1970s plastic.

The engine cover Z shape always makes me laugh, good colour for a GS though!

No further back than a Lotus 7/Caterham which has plenty of room for a live rear axle or de Dion with chassis mounted diff.

Is the green one some kind of Europa variant?

There's a very strong hint in the post immediately after that pic.

I had forgotten all about the GS Europa. Good to be reminded of it, thanks.
My Europa became a hovercraft!

Never heard of it. I like it though. Thanks

-When I think GS I think Citroen (car), BMW or Suzuki (bike)

I quite the GS Europa, though it really does have some crude and clonky details.

Those door handles, for instance, are unforgiveable.

Designed by William Towns. You can see that it dribbled out of the same pen as the AM Lagonda.

Amazing - lets see if a wider audience can ID it.
