Out of interest what kind of establishment is 'Solitaire'? It looks like a Banksy installation, but less contrived.
Its in Namibia, it is country lodge and has a fuel station/garage repairs/bakery etc. Apparently the Scots guy (deceased)is famous for his apple pie Also got lots of car wrecks (see my thread) its a place you stop at on the way somewhere.....a sort of outpost. This Wiki link tells more.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solitaire,_Namibia

It's a myth that galvanising prevents rust, it just seems to slow it down, my 1977 galvanised 911 had plenty of rust especially in the B posts which were completely open to the elements.
That Audi 90 is just old and has probably been through at least 20 British winters and that edge of the wheel arch is a water trap so no amount of galvanising will stop it rusting.

True, it's just a coating that can be disturbed just like any other - a decent scrape will take it off. I thought Porsche kept a late-70s 911 shell outside their factory, with no paint on, just to show how it didn't rust. Maybe it's gone now.
You mean moved or rusted away? droopsnoot said:

The thing I was told about Audi galvanising (by Roger Galvin, IIRC) is that when Audi started using the process they were using sheets of steel, that had been pre-galvanised. When the panels had been pressed and then trimmed, the trimming left exposed edges, which rust. So then they started dipping the whole shell once it was put together. Whether this is true or not I don't know. Also, when Audi started using the galvanised steel, they seemed to do it on a very random basis. I once had very late Quattro 20v, which was basically rusted out – I don't think there was a rust free panel on the car. Conversely the '86 Quattro I had afterwards had rusty sills, but big patches of paint missing on the bonnet where rust was completely absent – just that silvery grey galvanised metal. The '88 car I have now had lived outside for most of its life, and apart from some accident damage on one wing and some grot on the wheel arch where mudflaps were fitted, is completely rust free.If they're ur-quattros, then there was never any kind of official confirmation that there was any galvanising on them at all, as they pre-dated the introduction. There were all kinds of rumours that as time went on, more and more parts were galvanised, perhaps they were made of pre-galvanised steel. I seem to recall hearing that mentioned before, that cut edges were a problem, though I can't remember where. As an ex-QOC member, it might have been in one of their newsletters.

Not sure if this is in the spirit of the thread. The cab is full of junk and it never seems to move.
I guess it depends whether it has been left to die but otherwise definitely in the spirit of the thread for me. I love that, particularly if it is at all genuine, would be fantastic to own but my wife might be likely to suggest I live in it were I to own it!galro said:
An ALlard J2 coupé likely by Peel coachworks that was left rotting in Croydon region, here seen in 2011. Does anyone know if it is still there?
And outside on the road is one Daimler Dart with trailer at the ready! If that's not the owner's, could be someone just come to pick up the Allard - or both (Scimitar GT as well) on trailer, so ...could have gone that day!
Hard luck ...probably!
Or maybe not?
I recall a Dart exactly that green and contrasting hood on European plates.
You know what they're like for buying up our classics.
