The surprising thing for me is that all the cars you see in Manila are Japanese or Ford and most of them here are what I would call 'new' cars (10 years old or newer) and then there were these.
I've seen one performance car (911 Turbo) and there does look to be a car scene.
I'm sure it will be different when I get out in the provinces with older cars.
Oh and millions of motorbikes of course smile
When I was in Manilla I had a very interesting experience at the Jeepney factory. This was nearly 10 years ago - traffic was chokka, the standard of driving chaotic and the fumes choking. Has it improved at all?

You were lucky to spot a 911 - I spotted absolutely no exotica at all!

Oh, and you are a braver man than me going for a run in Manilla and taking random wrong turns.....

I've never been, but I've heard enough about the place to think exactly this...

They did a Wizard on Car Sausage IIRC
Was a death trap (aren't they all) badly built and left to rot.

Don't worry about the number plate thing, you're not the only one afflicted, I can remember all my Dad's plates still, and all the plates of the 37 car's I've owned since 1987...they make very handy bases for passwords these days, with a bit of judicious special character and capital use, and if you need to leave yourself a clue as to what the password is, then something like "blue Citroen GSA" will prompt you, but mean nothing to anyone else.

I can indeed recall several of them!

My wife is Filipina and was with me and it was daylight so other than loose dogs we reckoned we were ok!

The roads in Manila are chaotic, near our hotel is a 4 way intersection with 4 lanes going East / West and 2 lanes going North / South, except at rush hour it's a free for all.

Sorry for the thread derail smile

Yes, it is. Parked in a quiet corner of a smart neighbourhood in Amman.

Crumbs. Do they drive on the left in Jordan?

Looks like it's in amazing condition under the dust. Would absolutely love to drive that back to the UK, if there's a plausible route at the moment of course!

They don't, so it is an interloper. It was pretty solid, as you'd expect here. I'm not sure there is a plausible route back by land these days. The border with southern Syria is open. So, you can, in theory, get to Damascus. But from there it would have to be west to Beirut and then get a boat, as you can't cross from the government held areas of Syria into the north, which you would need to do to reach Turkey. The border with Israel and the West Bank is still open, but that doesn't help much.

Actually, you could go into Iraq, and then north into eastern Turkey and head west from there. That would be spectacular.

Late 1303, curved front screen, elephant foot rear lamps. Probably the least desirable Beetle ever made, apart from perhaps the Mexican made ones.

Badge says 1300L, so it's a flat screen isn't it, despite the big rear lights?

I had a black 1303 years ago (UWW 454N, had been resprayed black from blue). My personal favourite Beetle is the 1303S - but I know I'm in a tiny minority for some reason.

btw even if it can not ne saved, which I guess it can be saved, then lots of parts on it to sell, the hardtop alone can go for good money.
