Ugh, there are even old fag-ends in the ashtray. That's no way to treat a car like that frown

H511OOK full check comes up as a Carlton GSI 24V A 4 Speed Auto. Its recorded as a Total Loss on the 20/04/1995 and as a Cat C on 16/06/1999. It has had 3 colour changes the last being 17/01/2009. Has 12 former keepers - last change in 2009 - engine number recorded as 01000435.

Certainly has some history smile

Is it a stolen Lotus Carlton with a GSi identity?

The crap growing all over the wheel and gear knob would bother me more. Most cars from the 1980s/1990s will probably have had loads of people smoke in them over the years

Could it be a real Lotus wearing the identity of a dodgy Carlton GSi?

What do you think it’s worth? Say as a non runner with a broken engine? Worst case scenario. I’ve posted a note through seeing if he’ll sell it.

Apparently the owner has only been seen a handful of times in the past couple of years
Quite a few absent property owners buy old cars and leave them on the front drive to make the place look inhabited. There are a few of those near my office in Ealing.

The GSI shell here was previously black and changed to green by the current owner, strange to take the identity of 202 and all the other bits but not to use the original VRM. Like a Sierra Cosworth thats registered as a 1600L. Still interested though bounce

Sounds well dodgy, does anyone want this so badly? So many times spent in some backstreet chop shop getting hacked about, theres bound to be bits of some poor sods pride and joy an there if not the whole thing.

Metal parts rusted to dust but the leather seats fully in tact!??

Anyway, steering wheel too prosaic for a GT6. It's from something like this Wolseley 6....

yes

Also front suspension isn't right for Triumph GT6 (or Vitesse), they had tubular shock absorbers and dual wishbones.

Indeed it is/was a Wolseley, has to be a 6 but then who knows what bodywork was there before.

It does seem odd that there is essentially nothing but a frame, engine and interior (including tray tables in the backs of the chairs).

No idea what the story is, but interesting either way.

Spotted today. Apparently this is part of the large collection sold to Jaguar / Tata last year. The 'better' cars were stored in various barns but I don't think it was appropriate to take pics. I saw well over 100 cars ranging from a mint Metro automatic to an Aston Lagonda.

Love the vari-drive on the little soap box car though. Ingenuity at it's finest there. biggrin
