just been on youtube looking at one of the urban explorer sites and found one from 2018 showing a airbase with thousands of cars from the 2009 scrappage thing that are still stored just rotting away.Even today a good lot of these cars could be made use of but I suppose that would be against the idea of the scheme.
Just seems such a waste

The long distance view photos don't look like scrappage cars to me. Plenty of new Mercs in there. Also they're all parked to be driven out.
I went to Bruntingthorpe a year or two ago and there were hundreds of nearly new Mercs and other marques stored there sitting on the grass by the runways. They even had to mow the grass around them. The odd one even had its bonnet open.

Here is the Youtube link

I've not watched it (again) so can't remember the location.
At 25:49 they also found some discarded bodywork from a racing car.

It's hard to imagine any "fault" which would keep a car like that off the road for so long.
You'd think, but if you saw the other stuff there it would be less surprising. I don't feel right about going into any more detail on it - I don't have much, but it's not my story to share. It's going for auction at H&H next month.caley64 said:

RFC303W, last taxed 2003 but it would have been pretty rotten even then. It would have come from Hartwells on Botley road who I used to use for mine. Looks like an early HE with Starfish wheels and the stripes.
Won't be a manual in that case. That'd be the one useful thing left!
I doubt that's the original number of the car.Won't be a manual in that case. That'd be the one useful thing left!
A lot of folks in Lewis have a special affinity for the initials RFC

MOT ran out out June '17 with 240k on the clock!I drove a few back in the day - fantastic cars. One of the great forgotten cars of our time. Superb handling and with the VR6, sounded sublime. Not sure I've seen that green before though. Looks like the green from the mk 1 Scirocco.

Looks like Misano red - could be one of the Motorsport editions our even an M635CSi.
Bloody shame.
could be, late model bumper and no chrome trims suggests it might be..... what a shame to leave it like thatBloody shame.

I'm pretty sure a previous owner has sprayed the bumper insert red to increase the colour-coding of the car - it should be black.
Highline cars (post mid-1987 onwards) share exactly the same wheel arch extensions, front air dam and rear boot spoiler between the M635CSi and the 635CSi unlike the pre-Highline cars where the 635CSi and M635CSi have different front air dams.
On any E24 car the easy way to check for an M635CSi is the rev-counter; all other E24's (including Alpina cars) have the econometer in the bottom the rev-counter, the M635CSi has no econometer but a simple, small '///M' logo.
