Is that a Herald chassis in the foreground?

If it is roadworthy you can... Just like in the old days when it would have needed an MoT.. in which case it would also need to be roadworthy. What is the difference?

The difference now is that an 'amateur' can declare the vehicle roadworthy not a well trained mechanic, checking to a set of guidelines.

But an amateur can still declare their MOT'd vehicle roadworthy 6 months after it's had an MOT and it may still be dangerous to drive, so the point is?

The real point is that, even though individual MoT testers may be more or less lenient about things to do with classic cars, there was at least evidence that some sort of inspection had taken place, and if not you'd get pulled over for it (I did frown ) (not in a classic).

Now, whilst the responsibility for roadworthiness still lies with the owner (or driver I guess), there is no central record that any inspection has taken place, and therefore the police (or anyone else) has no way of knowing that at some point within the last year any given vehicle conformed to set of standards.

So now the unscrupulous can jump in an old heap and drive around in it until disaster strikes.

banghead Are you really equating a car that's been checked within the last 6 months to a car that's been sat in a barn for years? Really?

Looking again I'm wondering what I was thinking; you are probably right with Elan. The rear 'bumper' was throwing me.

Can anyone point me at the page where the Ferrari 400 was sitting on somebody's drive? Can't find it for toffee.

That's not a 400. I think he means the one that's been posted at least twice over the years. Looks utterly ruined.

Wow, that brings back some very early memories, I remember my Dad bringing one of these home from the sales garage he was working for at the time. It was white with red stripes and brown interior. I thought it was ultra Cool at the time, looking at it now it has more than a hint of landrover discovery about it. The roofline, bonnet etc.

I know it's not a 400 - I should have said "This Ferrari" - the one I linked to is a BB 512 I think - but I though maybe he wasn't sure which model it is.

There was one which used to frequent our home town as a kid. Being butch but two wheel drive, you could say it was ahead of its time!

In fact I remember the Ferrari he is thinking of - it was parked on a driveway, and had been partially restored before being laid up.

It was on Ebay I think.
