Nowadays, you can just open the doors and drive that away...
If it is roadworthy you can... Just like in the old days when it would have needed an MoT.. in which case it would also need to be roadworthy. What is the difference?eccles said:
The difference now is that an 'amateur' can declare the vehicle roadworthy not a well trained mechanic, checking to a set of guidelines.
But an amateur can still declare their MOT'd vehicle roadworthy 6 months after it's had an MOT and it may still be dangerous to drive, so the point is?The real point is that, even though individual MoT testers may be more or less lenient about things to do with classic cars, there was at least evidence that some sort of inspection had taken place, and if not you'd get pulled over for it (I did ) (not in a classic).
Now, whilst the responsibility for roadworthiness still lies with the owner (or driver I guess), there is no central record that any inspection has taken place, and therefore the police (or anyone else) has no way of knowing that at some point within the last year any given vehicle conformed to set of standards.
So now the unscrupulous can jump in an old heap and drive around in it until disaster strikes.

Wow, that brings back some very early memories, I remember my Dad bringing one of these home from the sales garage he was working for at the time. It was white with red stripes and brown interior. I thought it was ultra Cool at the time, looking at it now it has more than a hint of landrover discovery about it. The roofline, bonnet etc. RSVR101 said:

That's not a 400. I think he means the one that's been posted at least twice over the years. Looks utterly ruined.
I know it's not a 400 - I should have said "This Ferrari" - the one I linked to is a BB 512 I think - but I though maybe he wasn't sure which model it is.Gassing Station | Classic Cars and Yesterday's Heroes | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
