It always seemed a staple part of scrap yards in the 70's to have an old car either on the roof of the building or rusting away on top of a container.
I wonder if there were ever any real rarities used this way before their value skyrocketed?
SD.
There used to be some sort of 30s sports car painted bright orange perched high on a pole at ZB Breakers on the A20 between Sidcup and Swanley. It started off being reasonably complete but various parts fell off over the years until finally it disappeared altogether. I remember that too. My memory is of an Austin 7 tourer, probably a 'Nippy'. Like you said, it slowly fell to bits. I used to see it on my way to / home from Brands Hatch in the early to mid 70's.Kim

There are several of those not a million miles from me, slowly returned to the ground in and around somebody's garden. They were there in a state of disrepair in 1995 and having recently moved back to "mah bit" I was amazed to see they're still there. I'd bet none are movable now, not without an industrial sized dustpan and brush. He used to have an E36 M3 equally neglected but it's since gone, hopefully to live in bit it complete or in parts.Mr lestat said:

It's zero rated & doesn't need an MoT, so I suppose it demonstrates a flaw in the system...

That’s taxed unbelievably, must have been one of the last as the SD1 came out then as well,I’m sure I’ve seen an R reg one.P5BNij said:
Surprisingly rare too, as the 2200s were only made from late '73 to earlyish '77. There used to be quite a number of S2 P6s rotting away slowly on people's drives round our way, mostly 3500s as I recall. I'd like another one some day before I'm too old.
That would be a serious Brave Pill! I bought a 1973 P6B 3500S in 1979 because a (rare?) manual V8 when I was 20 seemed like a good plan.
But it had more rot than the 9 year old Fiat it replaced!
Good luck to anyone who tries to rescue that.
