Found out the other day that the BX estate was little more than an extra section tacked on to a hatch (as in literally there is the hatch floor pan and then an extra section attached on at the end). Taking that into consideration I don't think it looks too bad, certainly not as bad as the terrible W114 and E3 above. Still looks a bit off as the rear door at the top "droops" slightly.

Similar problem with Volvo's 240 Estate - They used the saloon's rear doors, and designed the door surround to disguise it:

It has bugged me for years mad
Likewise these always wound me up, Crayford I could excuse but not Renault themselves!

Since the 240 is a facelift 140 they’ve been at it for a very long time!

Mind you, the benefit is that if you need a new rear door you can just get one from any car without having to hunt down an estate.

The yellow Porsche is a 928. Next to that is what I believe to be a BMW Z3.

Looks like an M Roadster, getting quite collectible and increasing in value.

I still can't make my mind up about the P6 Estoura by Panelcraft....

Nor me.

I like (and have owned) P6s but have never been sure of these; I'm not keen on the rear or the rear three-quarter views and I don't like the exposed hinges on the later ones. The side view is probably its best.

I knew someone that owned one years ago and, whilst it had rarity value, the basic saloon's style didn't carry the conversion as well as, for example, a Lynx Eventer XJS or the Volvo P1800ES. IMHO.

The SD1 experimental estate wasn't too bad, if a little on the plain side....

Those SD1s are two different variations.

BL produced 2 prototypes which never made production so were stored. Apparently Michael Edwards saw one and took it as his personal car - his car had the rear wiper and inset number plate. Apparently when he took it on, he had it upgraded to VdP spec (rubbing strips, rear head rests, chrome door mirrors etc) - it was originally in far more basic spec. Apparently Prince Charles used the other one for a time.

I read all that here

I can make your mind up for you....any estate/sportback conversion of a luxury saloon is always a leaking corrosion riddled abomination

Even purveyors of estate car royalty, Volvo were at it. The 240/60 series cars had that rear door "droop" too.

Also covered up in the facelift with black trim

That detail always did and still does bother me to this day,, as does the fact that the rear seatbelts were anchored onto a piece of steel tube the diameter of a chopstick!

There is a lot of MK4/5 Cortina going on in that design....

It is a truly bizarre design. For such an iconic and IMO great looking estate car, it has two design bodges that really make it look like making an estate was an afterthought.
