The S2
Back then there were some excellent tax breaks for British Forces Posted Overseas (BFPO’s) who could buy a UK spec car in their country of posting and get a huge tax discount when they UK registered it as second hand. As a real wild guess, given the Suffolk/Norfolk heritage with the RAF, I’d venture to suggest it started its early life in Germany and came to the UK when the posting ended.

VW Group car number plates all used to have the same font but it was distinct from this one IIRC. Or maybe as a J reg this was the font they were using at the time. The abandoned one has a curious MOT history - 142k miles in '07, then maybe a new speedo as the mileage drops to 4 figures for a few years, then a clean pass 2009 - 2 yeas with no advisories then nothing. Left to die...

FancyPlates.com can still print show plates using a very similar font; listed as UK Pre-2001 (C). For all the plate geeks out there, what Ford dealerships would have been operating in Sheffield, circa 1991? I quite fancy a set of proper period plates for the Sierra. For a long time I believed the car was supplied new in Leeds but the reg ends WG, which is Sheffield.

I was at uni in Sheffield in 1992, the main Ford dealer was (and may still be) TC Harrison.Cold said:

Never mind all the Audi numberplate stuff, that Range Rover appears to be a very late model Classic on an N reg. And what's with the 4.6 labelling? Has there been some engine swap based shenanigans? Sorry to go on about registrations again but I worked at LR in Solihull for a while and many of the company registered cars had "VC" reg so this may have been a management, pool or press car.

Fantastic! Thank you for this. I remembered I had the V888 (no longer available) stashed in the house so took a look through. It looks like the car was supplied new by GK Group, now Perrys, then spent most of the rest of its life in Hertford. Intriguing stuff, which I'm sure could be taken to one of the replica plate manufacturers. Really appreciate the knowledge too - the odds of finding someone in Sheffield at the exact time period with knowledge enough to answer seemed low, but then this is PH. Levin said:

I have a question about Saabs, in Sweden in particular.https://www.saabsunited.com/2021/07/saabs-in-penns...

In 67 Sweden switched from driving on the left to the right but before then (and after) all the cars are LHD.
Does that mean they drove LHD cars on the "proper side" left?

its indeed a kit, but could be used for cheap-ish rally's, its bonnet has bonnetpins, different set of wheels on the rear (ugly ones) shell sponsor or just a shell user ;-) mudflaps, bucketseats, mist lamps gone now brake coolers, but all could also be just show.
Wonder what engine is in it, is it original, or a Mi9 version, or maybe such 1.9 turbo version?
This got me thinking. Not seen a 405 MI16 for a looong time.Wonder what engine is in it, is it original, or a Mi9 version, or maybe such 1.9 turbo version?

Bit pricey but still.
4wd and that engine, would it fit under a Peugeot 205? could be made to fit I guess.
would be a bit of waste for such rare 405 Mi16 though.
Not sure about the 4x4 system, doubtful.
