Ordinary Cars That Have Disappeared Off The Radar

I do, actually. Flaws in the data are going to be flaws in DVLA's record, mainly on imported stuff where the model simply isn't entered.
Unless you've got anything to the contrary?
According to that site there are a dozen or so Cortina's with engines bigger than 10000cc and a few of those invacars are on the road.Unless you've got anything to the contrary?

Cars that have vanished? The Mark 1 Mondeo is almost there but Montegos have gone from the roads now. Still see the odd Sierra or Cavalier.
Saw a Montego just before Christmas. Think it was in Glasgow. I remember repairing rusty rear arches on them when I was a bodywork repairer in the 1990s. The one I saw recently was in very good condition, although looked unrestored. TooMany2cvs said:
So where do you think the information comes from, if not directly and automatically from DVLA's own registration records?
I haven't a clue where all the false info comes from all I am saying is for people not to believe it all.Unless there are a dozen or so Cortina's out there with 10000cc plus engines.
I have only looked at the Cortina bit and it is quite laughable.

There will be a dozen or so Cortinas out there with V5Cs that say 10000cc+. Do they actually? <shrug> Find the registered keepers, and ask them...Unless there are a dozen or so Cortina's out there with 10000cc plus engines.

HML is quite clear that the data is from DVLA, warts and all.

GIGO.

All I am saying is that site is giving out false info and that folk shouldn't believe all that they read there.HML is quite clear that the data is from DVLA, warts and all.

Unless there are 18 Cortina's with +10000cc engines.

I repeat - there will be 18 Cortinas with V5Cs that say "10000cc+". That's all HML is saying. They haven't been round to the keepers to check if the V5Cs are accurate. Should they?
Fairly pointless and inaccurate site then just dishing out duff info taken from someone else.TooMany2cvs said:
Well, if you don't think they can just present DVLA's data, then I take it you think they SHOULD come round and check the accuracy of each and every V5C...?
So what is the benefit of dishing out inaccurate and duff info?I suppose dodgy folk can use this duff info when selling a car and jacking up the price by saying how rare the car is according to that site.
Just noticed an error in my figures, there are actually 28 Cortina's with +10000cc engines.
So 28 Cortina people have a log book with 10000+cc in it.
Try owning Austin 7s. A huge number of the V5s are cocked up because there are numerous models over the years, (both pre war and post war).
Engine sizes are all over the place.
The data is direct from the DVLA you can apply for it here;
https://data.gov.uk/data/search
Lots of this data is from back when it was all done by hand, at one point it would have been re-entered to computers, typos galore!

I had a yellow Matra Rancho Corgi car as a child.
Judging by the prices on ebay, I should have kept hold of it!

Ask DVLA.Their answer will be that it's the registered keeper's responsibility to ensure the information is accurate.

Indeed. All computerised when it was transferred to Swansea in the early '70s. Before that, just a miscellany of file cards in county councils.Edited by TooMany2cvs on Thursday 11th February 22:30
