Lancia Delta > FIAT sold only a handfull Bravos: why? They are great cars.

http://left-lane.com/european-car-sales-data/fiat/...
Fiat are only really known for their small cars here. Anything bigger than the Punto and they struggle, though TBH the Bravo is probably past its sell by date by now. Not sure if the 'new' Tipo; is coming here.
Saw loads of Bravo and Delta in South Italy (Puglia / Basilicata): they look so good out there. Never drove a new Bravo but I reckon they must be a great drive.

The 2.0 Multijet 165 hp / 360 Nm looks like a Golf basher. But I guess that did not happen. Still a good looking car.

My Dad always had company cars, mostly Cortinas and Cavaliers.

There were a couple of oddities though: a 1972 Mazda 1800 Deluxe estate in white (HOT460L) and a 1976 Fiat Supermirafiori Panorama estate, also in white with tan velour seats.

The Mazda was remembered fondly and covered over 100,000 miles in 3 years, and I don’t remember ever seeing another one on the road.
I remember thinking it was a bit of a Triumph 2000 rip-off, which I guess isn’t a bad thing as it was a nice-looking car in my opinion.

The Fiat didn’t last as long, my Dad blew the diff trying to get up an icy hill and I never saw it again.

A LOT less so... Ranchos were always rocking-horse, and they rotted terribly.

Good ol' HowManyLeft...

5 taxed, 5 SORNed Ranchos left. All Talbot - the last Chrysler died a decade ago.
90 taxed, 30 SORNed Austin Princess, before we even go near all the various other-badged and other-specced variants. There's 5 taxed and 10 SORNed Princess HLS Automatic alone. Then there's a chunk of Ambassadors, too. 1 taxed, 6 SORNed VdP Ambassador, and another 2 taxed, 4 SORNed VdP Ambassador Auto.
Hopefully no one actually believes the rubbish on that howmany site.

My contribution.

NEC last year.
That's the only way a Rancho could have got into a situation like that - they were 2wd.
Certainly a car before its time. IIRC most people thought 'wtf is that for?' at the time.

Mazda never was popular, apart from the rotary cars and the MX-5.

A pity because they did pretty good cars. Not bad lookers either. Look at todays 6: I would choose that over a 4-door 3 even.

The new Mazda range does look good, going by the number I see must be selling fairly well.

Early SEATs are rare and forgotten - mk1 Ibiza, Toledo, Marbella (Panda clone), but in particular does anyone even remember the SEAT Malaga? - how many left says one still on the road!

Another forgotten car of the era is the Daihatsu Applause

There was one like that on eBay not too long ago.

Slightly off topic, but not much.

I was surprised when a friend pointed out to me that you can no longer buy a new petrol VW Passat in the UK, only diesel ones.

I briefly wondered if that's partially because the Passat VII hasn't been out very long here, but a quick look at VW.de shows 1.4 125/1.4 150/1.8/2.0 220/2.0 280 4Mo available there. So it must be a conscious market decision by VW UK...

Quite. Clearly VW UK have decided there is no commercial worth in importing the petrol ones, or VW have decided it's not worth engineering RHD versions.

Plus they would in any case do RHD petrol for Japan.

True, but I was just thinking about the fact they've already got EU-type-approval.

A quick (and lucky) bit of random clicking on VW's Japan website finds a PDF brochure, which (AFAICT) suggests the 1.4TSi 150 is the ONLY engine available there.
