I'm in the unfortunate position of owning a 200 which has had, and still needs quite a bit of work.

I had no appreciation when I bought it of just how knackered cars are by the time they get to 15+ years old, and how utterly uneconomic it is to repair them to a proper standard.

Mine runs and drives, but isn't right, so I'm on track to spend four times more on repairs than I bought the car for. I'll never ever see the money back with mine (just got incredibly unlucky with the one I bought I guess) but it's essential work as far as I'm concerned as the car must be "right" or else what's the point?

I can see now that we're probably 2-3 years away from all but the very best examples of the 200s disappearing. That should hopefully see prices solidify a bit!

The 220 will be about 7 years behind mine I guess, given that production stopped 7 years later. They're definitely falling into the abused category now (based on the ones I viewed which were all a bit rough) so the rubbish will be weeded out over the next few years.

You know, there’s a problem here. We’ve become obsessed with the increasing value of our classic and modern classics and forgotten how to just bloody well enjoy them ffs!!

If you look at what's happening to boggo mk1 Fiestas, Escorts etc then yes it almost certainly will become desirable classic, but maybe not by enough to offset the cost of keeping it smart for the next ten years. The big money goes to the high end stuff but people still want the cars of their youth. It's interesting that 80s, 90s cars are on the up while earlier models are dropping it's all to do with nostalgia.
