I had a few XR3i's in the 90's...
Stuffed 2 met blue Mk3's within 3 months of each other (found out 2nd was completely rotten under some nice paint) due to too much fun with lift of overstear.
1 Mk4 hatch I was using for commuting - which I promptly sold when the filler cap disappeared into the rear quarter when filling up.
2 Mk4 Cab's - 1st was a proper Essex spec in white with full body kit (rabbits seemed to like throwing themselves at the front spoiler), recaros & Mk4 15" RS Turbo wheels. Had for 3 years - used to get pulled over by Colchester's finest at least once every 2 weeks (I was 21) as they thought I'd nicked it, only broke down once in 50k miles & then sold for only £500 less than what I paid for it. 2nd was purchased in 2006 for £650 on eBay with the extra strength rose tinted glasses on, had the body work tarted up but hated every second of driving it so PX'ed for £1500 (making a profit) against a 944 cabrio which I still have & love - amazingly the insurance for the 944 was £200 cheaper than the XR!
Also had a 2.8 Ghia 4x4 estate - that was a sleeper & great fun - but the dreaded rust worms started to eat him...
Friends of mine had many many XR2's, 2i's & 1.6i Orion Ghias (plus a some 205 GTIs, Astra GTEs, they were quick but lift off overstear was really BAD!) - most of which ended up in hedges etc around rural Essex... not surprising insurance was so high..
Sadly I really don't want one now, great cars in their time but not now - did the rose tinted specs once, never again.
