There's a cut line in the floorpan just between where front seats mount and just before the rear seat hump.
.
How does the running gear make up for that difference? Other than the earlier posts re front suspension caster change..
Like I said, I have had a few (actually about 7 or 8) Sunbeams, all rally cars so spent many hours in and under them but never even looked under an Avenger really. If the cross member mounts in the same place and the engine mounts are the same, the engine and box are the same, the propshaft is the same and the axle and it's locating arms are the same then the shell itself can't be shorter to shorten the wheelbase can it?

Just a bit of thread resurrection, as it would be 40 years ago today that my old car, DAC 71Y was first registered. It was bought by a RN officer as a Valentine Day present for his wife...
That sounds like the perfect ruse to have the car you like with the Mrs approval Mark A S said:

That sounds like the perfect ruse to have the car you like with the Mrs approval She used it pretty much just for going down to the beach in. She was a surfer or sailboarder, and that's why the roof panel had quite a few slight indentations in it alongside the fabric sunroof, as it used to have a roof rack for the boards, and the boards used to hit the roof sometimes when they were being lifted on and off the rack.
It was pretty much only used for local journey's in and around Plymouth and west country by first two owners, and was why it only had 26k miles on the clock when I bought it in summer of 1988 from the second owner. When I drove it back to London after buying it, it was the second longest trip it had been on since the drive down from Arbury Service station to Plymouth when it was new!

That is a Very cool story, well apart from the roof damage, but a LS as a beach bum car sounds good to me She used it pretty much just for going down to the beach in. My car with 15" Minilites....Escorts may command more money these days but think the Sunbeam shape still looks nicer
I still think they look better on 13” wheels, even though mine is also on 15” due to the mohassvive front brakes, stops well though.
Being an ardent Escort fan, I think visually the LS is right on the money compared to a nice RS looking Mk2, however the Mk1 2 door RS look is very hard to better. Still, said it before, as road cars, the LS’s are quite a bit nicer with a stonking engine.
Must be a good excuse to post another pic of mine now then, I went for a supple double gold pinstripe in the end, thought the “normal” LS silver broad stripes might be a bit OTT with the wheels I have

Mine stopped OK as well (once they were up to temp of course!) after fitting a pukka PTS supplied 'works' AP front brake kit, which was designed to fit within 13" mag Minilites....which I also had on my car (This was the very last kit left on the shelf for sale at PTS at the time)

Are those the "monte" AP callipers as used on the works Escorts? 1" thick front discs ? They look similar to what i had on DKP many years ago, indeed, stopped Very well (This was the very last kit left on the shelf for sale at PTS at the time)
