How did plod know he was commuting?????
Possibly because the driver admitted it? Who knows?
I'm sure I've read somewhere else that the driver was stopped for something else, provided their details and said they were on the way to (or from) work, but when they checked the details of the insurance policy it did not cover commuting. It's not as if the driver was pulled over for that reason.

Wonder how many commuter-drivers aren't actually covered for commuting? My CX certainly isn't covered for that type of thing, so I only bring it out at weekends.

I use mine every day as its my only car, 21 year old Volvo 850. Starts on the button every morning even during icy weather

[quote=Horsetan]Hopefully we're all insured to commute?

Glad you brought this up, I checked and I'm not!
Going to get commuting added to my policy tomorrow

Just had my renewal from FJ for my Elf, I had the foresight to include driving to and from work when it took out the policy two years ago. As I retired today I could save myself £20 and take it off.

Pleased this thread is proving useful as a reminder to check the small print on insurance documents! laugh

Keeping the wider scope of 'classics doing everyday things' popped into Sainsbury's in the Daimler this afternoon and parked (accidentally-on-purpose) near a lovely Ferrari 458. Came back to the car with the shopping and as I approached it, I saw a chap looking at both cars and overheard him say to his companion, whilst pointing at the Daimler, "yeah, but I'd rather have that one.." Made me smile..

That said, if any 458 owners want a swap.. laugh

How many (in the UK anyway) are now tucked up avoiding the bad weather (and salty roads!)?
The MR2 is now staying at home if it's over 35C, until I fix the aircon.
So I'm driving the 25 year old, 350,000 km non-classic.

My 23yo was used for the commute during the snow once I'd cleared the old girl off. Still not sure what caused the bald spot laugh

The modern meanwhile sat in it's own little igloo for the period

It barely does 70 and doing that is like sticking your head in a tin bucket and hitting it with a hammer. So, nope!

I didn't think I'd see another one of these so similar to mine although perhaps the colour is not so close as I first thought...

I would imagine most of us a fair few weeks away from pulling the dust covers off and opening the garage doors, so much respect to the Mk2 Jag owner out and about in Guildford this morning.. In this weather!!

All of my heaps are used as actual cars and live mostly outdoors. I would be using my 1981 Lotus Eclat as my daily at present (galvanised chassis, GRP body), but it has a problem with one of its doors, so the current drive is my 1979 Lancia Beta, which has had its rusty bits welded.

I have just been doing local trips on roads that don't appear to have been salted or gritted, but will still give the car a jetwash later today. The snow is melting quite rapidly.

Out and about by Lancia today, the other classic cars that I saw were a Marina in a lurid 70s pale green, a blue 90s Mini, a hot rodded orange VW Beetle, a bronze E30 BMW 3 series, and a recentish blue Caterham with hood and sidescreens.

I used the Series 3 Land Rover to get into work the last two days as I was working at the company site only 15 miles down the road. That's about a gallon of fuel each way ! I don't use it so much for working at the company site 36 miles away as that gets a bit too pricey despite the grin factor. It also leaks around the windscreen at the moment so my feet get wet in the rain which gets a bit tedious after a while. Should be an easy fix, I just need to wait for better weather.

Sadly I didn't see any other classics on either day, though there has been an MGB Roadster going around town fairly regularly over the last few weeks.

One thing to note is that I had to add Business use to the insurance as they would only cover me driving to my most regular site even though it is basically the same company across 3 sites. The Business use was no extra cost though.
