Due to a route change ,the run goes right through where I live ,would have been rude to ignore it.

A shame that 'modern' tin is spoiling the veterans' day!

Almost with fail ,all the participants had a smile or friendly wave for the passers by ,even though they must be freezing and travelling on

110+ year old technology.

Hereabouts we had solid rain all yesterday, after which today's low temperature would be the least of the participants' worries.
The modern stuff may be there because its owners feel they have some rapport with the Veterans, but all it does is increase the traffic and get in the way of those "manoeuvring with difficulty" as the nautical signal flag puts it. This one:

Some of the driving of the Veteran cars is a bit wayward, some hogging of RH lane and I'm sure there was some normal drivers getting impatient with one Veteran elephant racing.
Here's a few more pics off phone,it went flat soon after.

Agreed, far to many modern cars spoiling events meant for older iron.

Took the littl'un to Regent Street yesterday to see these cars on display ahead of today's run and it was nice to be able to get up so close to them and chat with the owners who are all enthusiasts (and a bit crazy wink).

His favourite car? The "classic" 2011 (?) Peugeot Le Mans race car biggrin

Cars very late getting to Brighton due to Reigate hill getting closed by a vet in an accident.

I was talking to passenger of car that broke down right in front of me where I was watching on Brighton outskirts, she said it took a while til someone worked out a diversion route, options are limited from there.

Lots of cars still arriving at 5pm.

Reigate hill is quite steep,I was concerned that these old cars would have brake problems keeping the speed down on the long descent of the hill.

I hope that this wasn't the case here.

Bad news indeed.

No doubt some do-good green environmentalist will use this as a reason why future runs should be banned.

Anybody any idea what a Fiat Fourini is ? Can't find any google refs apart from reports on this accident.

Very sad and, as others have said, I hope all recover fully.

The route change will have challenged a lot of the cars. The smaller ones puff and wheeze a bit going up Brixton Hill on the 'normal' route

I agree, it would be better if enthusiasts in other cars parked up and watched from the side. The roads are crowded enough without more traffic. Personally I think it's a shame the RAC and Police can't regulate the traffic for one day but unlike in Italy, that would never happen here. Yet they manage to close miles of roads for a cycle ride round London each year?

Very sad for the people involved in the accident, I hope they all recover.

Typical and a sad distraction that neither the Mail nor the BBC can see the word "Benz" without assuming that even in 1902 it really means Mercedes-Benz.

And say "annual parade of vehicles dating back to the early 20th Century" - err late part of the 19th!

Unfortunately, Classic & Sports Car don't exactly set the standard very high.
http://www.classicandsportscar.com/events/serious-...

121st running of the event? No, the Emancipation Run (an entirely separate event, with a different name, different rules and different organisers) was held 121 years ago. The Veteran Car Run began in 1927, with a nine-year absence for the war and petrol rationing. Assuming that there haven't been any more cancellations that I don't know of, this was only the 82nd running of the event.

C&SC's assumption that the run has been held annually without fail since 1896 doesn't even stand up to mathematical scrutiny. If that were the case, it would have been the 122nd year for it.

That aside does anyone know how the people in serious condition are doing?
