Ford Fiesta XR2I Restoration
Discussion
Crikey that brings back memories, exactly the same as my old one when I was 19. No offence but I was as keen on it as my mk2 XR2 and I only kept it 6 months or so until I part exchanged against a slightly older RS Turbo Escort.
Absolutely love that people keep these old things in such good condition to show off though

That looks superb, it's probably rather rarer now than a lot of much older cars.
I did get a slight chill from the sight of the CVH engine though. I'm sure they were ok in good condition, a friend's RS Turbo sounded fine, but my Orion Ghia rattled like a 50's diesel and was very reluctant to rev about 5000rpm.

Wow, a lot of work and dedication. Thanks for sharing the pics and the journey getting there.
I think that when it's dark and cold, we're under our classics trying to get a bit of purchase on a nut at an obtuse angle in order to get the bloody suspension apart just to refurb it, knowing we have to do the same on the other side while the Mrs is giving us grief for letting the tea she cooked go cold on the table, we often question as to whether it's bloody worth it. The frustration, the skinned knuckles, the dirt in our hair, crap falling into your mouth when you touch anything, the cost, earache, heartache, ball ache and headache.
After all that, getting a result like this, the answer is quite obvious. Of course it is.

I’d be happy to let it go to someone who would enjoy it. Right now it does around 50 miles a year to go to the test centre and back and to my local show. Make me an offer...that would help me fund the Capri resto!
I was partially tongue in cheek as I don't think I could afford to make you an offer that does it justice. Although if I could, I would be seriously tempted!I had a MK3 as my first car, it was a clattery old 1.3 8V, so the XR2 will always be one of the ones that got away!

I have no idea how many hours I spent toiling away in the garage doing this. What I do know is that it’s all worth it in the end and the attention it gets at shows is great. I only actually wanted the car in th first place to detail, so hopefully now I’ll be able to do that over the winter.
