I have read somewhere (I forget where) the reason that a helicopter was not used. It was (I think) either unavailability or weather, but I cannot recall which.

I took this photo in 1994. Two preserved Met Police cars in private ownership. A 3500 V8 traffic car with 2 blue lights and a 2600 area car with 1 blue light. I believe that they still exist.
