Why get an MOT when it is exempt and will not show as MOT'd on the DVSA website?. How can you MOT the unMOTable? You can have one done for your own satisfaction but it changes nothing at all. The position was explained to me by the DVLA quite clearly; the moment the car becomes 40 years old it is exempt, even if it is still taxed. They have reset their systems to automatically exempt cars the day they are shown on the DVLA records as having been registered for 40 years or more. I explained earlier that my E-type, 57 years old and counting, was taxed but out of MOT which is why I rang the DVLA. I went on to their website and retaxed the car even though it had a current tax to the end of October. The system cancelled my existing tax and reissued a new ticket for a year without an MOT, so now it is taxed until 31/5/19.

What do you mean "unMoTable" ? I have always had my '59 Healey MoT'd since the pre-60 exemption came in - the last time was earlier this month, and it now shows on the DVSA site as MoT'd until August 2019.

Providing it meets the originality test.

The only practical difference is whether a tug from the police can result in a ticket for no MOT or not.

Remind me - you're a French resident who keeps his cars in France, aren't you? So the UK MOT and registration system shouldn't be relevant - you should have 'em on a CGC, meaning no CT...
