It's hard to find pictures of a DS Break with the lower tailgate down, but that's the reason. Dunno why Citroen didn't use a top-hinged plate bracket like a Mini, an early Range Rover or any number of US station wagons but then they were never going to be conventional. Given how the DS was originally designed with hydraulically-powered windows, windscreen wipers and heater fan it wouldn't surprise me if there were plans for a hydraulic automatically-pivotting number plate which deployed from a tailgate like an aircraft's flap when the tailgate was lowered.

Being a Citroen I’m sure there is a clever answer to this: why does it have a rear number plate that faces up?
And here it is with the tail gate down

ps Love the Tricolour brollies!

My garage, circa 2011.

This pair complemented each other pretty nicely.

One had a magnificent engine and crap handling.

One had a crap engine and magnificent handling.

Both now sold, but it's the Alfa that I wish I still owned.

My pair have been together 17 years and counting; and they are not being separated either:-

OP - I remember that issue - 1973? DSJ paired his E-Type with a Norton.

I currently have a pair intended to compliment each other : Brera and Griffith.

But in a perfect world the Brera would be replaced by a Maserati 3200 GT and the Griffith by a vintage Bentley 3 litre. Pretty unlikely to happen regretably............

I'd have thought you'd have posted a picture of your old pair, for those days when you weren't quite sure whether it a long nose day or a short nose day.

Just because you're living in France doesn't mean you can live without a kettle biglaugh

Two wheels rather than four, and a bit less exotic than many of the machines on here, but I currently have a matching pair of Suzuki RFs - a 600 and a 900.

Sadly Glynn you are wrong. Weslake Monza's two pairs beats my one pair hands down.

He's not done too badly. He's trained his 300mm telephoto directly onto her arse!

My pair is a V12 Vantage and a classic Range Rover, oh and current model Golf GTI for the daily schlep.

Feels like a nice balance.

The rather common TVR + Rangie combo has worked perfectly for me for many years. The cars change but the pairing has remained as between the two types of cars so many boxes are nicely ticked.

The Rangie is due to be replaced at the end of the summer with my 72 which is nearing completion:

And that’ll be me settled for cars for quite a while.

There’s also a pairing of Toylanders as I’m keen to educate the girls to be as sensible as their father:

My perfect pair would be a TVR Chimaera and a MGB GT. I've owned them before and for me they complement each other perfectly. wink

My perfect pair, when I win the Euromillions, will be a short nose D-type and an Invicta Low Chassis. I have the right to dream.

This pair took me along time to get together.

Both 1969. My favorite year.
One for business and one for pleasure.
