Barn Bragging - House of Heaps
Discussion
Decision time on at least one of the sheddy sheds: I've sent a draft advert to PH Classifieds putting the Sherpa Campervan up for sale. Unless the advert is objected to on the grounds of protection of the public morals from BL shonkiness, the ad should go up today. The asking price is a bit finger in the air, there being not much of a market for such things. At least this one has an MOT and doesn't leak.

My cousin Phil has been kissed by Lady Gaga, the lucky blighter (he's a music biz techie creative wizard type geezer). I have not been kissed by Lady Gaga which makes me sad.
Hope the Sherpa shuffling goes without a hitch!
My wife has been kissed by David Bowie. Twice. He is no longer kissing anybody, and that makes us all sad. My wife has also been sent flowers by each of Steve Martin, Dustin Hoffman, and Al Pacino. Hope the Sherpa shuffling goes without a hitch!
Sherpa shuffling is perforce a bit of a speculative venture. It is said that people want campers now that we are in CoividWorld, but whether people want early 80s BL campers I do not know. Those who just want a cheap camper may not think to look in classic car advert locations. I could try eBay as well as PH and carandclassic, I suppose. There are a couple of Sherpa campers for sale at present, but both appear to be in worse condition than mine, and they do not have the two litre petrol engine.
Here is the PH advert.

Get that on a Scum Tree or a message board for surfers down in Newquay. Hipsters don't read PH!!I tried to edit the advert on PH, but the system appears to have taken that request as submission of a new advert. Paying for the ad is also a clunky process that appears a bit broken.

It's well worth putting it on carandclassic as well, it's free and you can post multiple ads in different sections.
It is already on there. It is now on Quirky Campers as well. Is 4500 too cheap? I wondered about 5000 or even more. It is quite scruffy, but it has been pretty dependable in use. Very hard to price one of these because they are very rare and not fashionable.
You are thinking of old style latex, which was like a wetsuit. The modern stuff is much thinner, and doesn't require talc. It's become a fashion fabric, and not just one for pervs. I know this entirely innocently through a friend (and I mean friend, nothing more) who models the stuff!
Many and perhaps all SUVs are likely to roll in accidents because they have high centres of gravity. If you want an everyday family wagon, a low slung sporty estate car is much safer.
Old old TG once did a test in which they simulated a lorry shedding its load on the motorway. The driver of the car following the lorry had to change lane very rapidly to avoid hitting the fallen load. If the driver was in an SUV, it rolled more often than not. If the driver was in a sporty estate car, it didn't roll.
Perhaps modern SUVs such as Alfa Stelvios address this issue, but ye cannae change the laws of physics, Cap'n.
Old Rangies and old Landies, like most old cars, are super dangerous in accident situations, for several reasons, but as classic car fans we accept that, and we maybe also drive them less often on motorways or in very fast modern traffic. OK, not me. I foolishly drive my sporty classic cars as if they were sporty modern cars, but I am a numpty. I drive the Landy sloooowwwwly, because it is a Landy.

Wow, the PH advert system really is mega terrible. I have wasted ages trying to edit the ad. Very polite emails from a trying to be helpful staffer aren't actually helping, because the system is just broken completely broken, and doesn't work. A fitting place to sell a BL van, I suppose, but what do all those people who think that modern Porsches etc are cars do when they want to sell or buy something with 97 inch RIMZ and a HyperDrive Megamap?

That is seriously good price get it on the bay of evil with a reserve and it will go I would have thought.
It is on there, but so far I have just had the usual collection of dreamers, including one caller who seemed to think that I was the Sherpa Camper Conversion Advisory Office, and rang to talk at length about how he might convert his Sherpa van to a camper. Fortunately the call dropped after a minute or two of somewhat stilted conversation. Edited by anonymous-user on Sunday 23 August 18:43
