Could argue half the cars in that picture are classics.

Apart from the mk V Cortina, there's a white Ur Quattro at the lights and red one facing us a few cars behind the Cortina!

This would be my contribution in the thread for " cars you never knew existed ", never heard of this before, and I can't remember the last time I said that!

Christ on a bike, that is epic, two Ur Quattros even at a Quattro meet in the rain is hard graft today, was that 20 years ago?

One used to knock about Park St in Bristol, in a gold mustardy colour. Funny little thing based on IIRC Triumph Dolomite, most noteworthy thing for me was the use of TR6 rear lamp units. I’d never noticed before - are those Granada headlamps?

Renault Fuego, that stirs memories! In the mid 80s I was running Renault's retail outlet in St Martins Lane. There was a tale that one of these had rolled off the quayside whilst being unloaded and was at the bottom of the deep water dock. It was quickly decided that, as they were almost impossible to sell, it would be better to leave it there and claim on the insurance. I remember taking a Turbo home one night, it was the most wheezy, gutless object on four wheels and I never drove another!
Boo hiss. Not a fan then! It was the 2nd car I rode in the front seat of after an accident and a dash to A&E. I was 5. My old man worked for Renault and I loved them! he had a few as company cars. DWT740Y was a silver one I remember!

A Renault 5 turbo 2 was the best Renault he ever brought home and the first front seat ride for me for obvious reasons.

Porsche 911... or is it a 912... in West Hampstead.

DVLA shows 1582 cc, which would make it a 912, but the last MOT has it registered as a 911. Regardless, MOT showed only 30,000 miles as of 2017!

The MOT tester probably recorded it as a 911 because they're clueless about Porsche's, don't know anything whatsoever about the 912, and just assume all porsche's that are that shape, are 911's!

(I wouldn't be surprised if they'd record a 959 as a 911!)

I thought that the model would come from the DVLA computer - surely the MOT tester just puts the registration into the computer these days?

You'd need to ask an MOT tester on how the MOT system works - I don't use it, so I wouldn't know.

I would have thought that there must be some sort of confirmation required for the make and model of car, with an option to correct or flag any discrepancies, and technically, a Porsche 912, is not a Porsche 911.

(I would say though that if you were to show 100 people a picture of a Porsche 912, and ask them what it is, the vast majority who know a bit about cars would say it's a 911, and hardly any would say it's a 912)

Is there any externally visible difference (other than a badge - possibly) ?

If it's a Chamois it'll be a Singer rather than a Hillman. The Hillman was called a Californian.

ETA There was also a Sunbeam Stiletto which looked very similar.
