I also think there’s a massive sniffiness (if that’s a word) about whitewalls.
They often appeared on UK manufacturer’s display stands at car shows of the day so it’s not like they are the blasphemy that the concours rivet counters think they are.
I agree. But I think they make the E Type look Federal. They often appeared on UK manufacturer’s display stands at car shows of the day so it’s not like they are the blasphemy that the concours rivet counters think they are.

What a spot! A very late model C2 Audi 100. It's the facelift with the white indicators and bigger lights, but for the last year of production it got the flatter wheel design and the "CL" badge for the lower spec model - so this is an 82 car the year before it was replaced by the aerodynamic C3.However what makes this so rare is that it's a 2 door - very few were made and they were only sold in Germany.
My dad had a 4 door 1980 in silver.back in the day "YAA 256V"

My first MGB had whitewalls when I bought it. I thought it looked good, especially as virtually no other B on the road was thus equipped. They often appeared on UK manufacturer’s display stands at car shows of the day so it’s not like they are the blasphemy that the concours rivet counters think they are.
It all went wrong when the rears wore out and were replaced with standard black tyres.

There's a time and a place for white walls, and that's on a Deusenburg or an old scruffy Shadow, for the latter it has to be on one wheel only and missing a wheel trim. Bonus points for missing a bumper and torn Everflex too
Pure class.

It now seems fashionable on PH to say you don’t like E-Types. If fawning over clapped out old Mercs whilst dissing the E-type (or getting sniffy about the latter wearing whitewalls) is the club norm, I'm very happy to not be a member.

God I hate those. One of the most ungainly designs ever, IMO.Until they came up with the 4c.
Was amazed when I drove one how much better it actually was than I expected it to be; nice quick steering, a 'close ratio' box with a nice long first and that twin spark lump which spun freely around to 7k rpm. Could carry good speed through the bends too with that wide track, though granted you could feel some wobble/flex if you really tried hustling it along a bumpy road.
