Well, I think they are beautiful.

If fawning over clapped out old Mercs whilst dissing the E-type (or getting sniffy about the latter wearing whitewalls) is the club norm, I'm very happy to not be a member. smile
I usually find it’s people that have driven a dog of an E that dislike them and continue to paint them all with the same brush.

A Series 1 or 2 that’s properly maintained is an incredibly capable car even with todays modern stuff. I hoon about everywhere in mine and it makes me giggle. Particularly when you consider they’re effectively over 60 years old now. Must have been a total sensation in the day.

My young son isn’t a major fan until he borrowed mine recently and is now totally smitten, he gets the hype

I've never really been a fan. Their axles are too short, and the one I procured for a client wasn't very comfortable.

But, I appreciate that others find them beuatiful, although with each successive series I think they got a bit clunkier, and it's easy to muck one up with stuff like white walls...

I also think there’s a massive sniffiness (if that’s a word) about whitewalls.
They often appeared on UK manufacturer’s display stands at car shows of the day so it’s not like they are the blasphemy that the concours rivet counters think they are.
My old S3 Commemorative which still had the original Dunlop white walls. On an S3 particularly with chrome steels I think it doesn’t get any better

I don't know if it is cool or amazing, certainly eye catching. Even my wife was amazed by it.

Buick Limited, apparently only 7500 made then discontinued.

A fortnight ago at Spa, I was smitten by this little MG Midget which was parked in the inner track by the old pits.

First and only car since 1993!

Hopefully you can read the comments on the information board.

I found it quite fascinating.

Were white walls standard fitment for the commemoratives then?

From late 71 to sometime in 74, when they reverted to "square arch".
Personally I think the round arch does look nicer but most sources reckon the square arch gives a stiffer chassis.
My Midget is a 78 (Triumph 1500 engine) so has square arches. Converting to round is doable but I don't think I'll bother.

This must surely count as a cool classic

Never seen one before in fact I never even knew they existed.

It is a 1960s Datsun Fair Lady.

A couple from my MTB ride today...


1972 Series 3 V12 E-Type. Looked outwardly rather well kept, but on looking closer some of the panels look like they need a repaint.



1968 Riley Elf at the other end of the same road.

I regret not including a Mk3 Escort (on a 'C' plate) now. It wasn't meant to be a car-spotting day, so I hadn't got a picture of that one. Looked in good nick too, possibly a Ghia in that rather nice metallic pale blue they did back then.

It was at Thornton le Dale (of B&C fame), so I suppose the Aston might have been en route when you saw it

Was going to say, being A) a V12, B) a 2+2 and C) having a Webasto certainly ticks some boxes, done well to find people through the years that loved it enough to make sure it survived.
