Recent spots are a friend who came round in his XK150 but today, a V8 double - OK, part orchestrated by myself as I took out my Facel 11 for a bit of a blast.

....
I think we need photos... ;-) And a video!

When I was young lad growing up, one of our next door neighbours had one for a year or so, would have been about 1970-71 and he bought it to replace his Cortina Mk.1......was a mustardy yellow colour, looked exactly the same as this one.

The senior physics master at school had one in the 60s. This somehow convinced me the Bond Equipe must be considerably better than the sum of its parts. It must be said I was a unbearable know all about cars when I was at school. It was a contemporary car so he may have had it from new.

The Bond Equipe could have been a bigger success than it was. Several different models were made.

In 1965 they would have had a major publicity coup, when two brand new Bond Equipe GT4S (4S indicating 4 seater) were to be the first vehicles ever to use the newly opened section of the M6 Motorway.
This would have been major news back then, but the news of the death of Winston Churchill the same day sadly meant only one thing was going to completely dominate the news and it wasn't the Bonds on the new part of the M26.

But it wasn't the end for the Equipe. Convertible and other models were produced. There is the interesting story of Trevor Fiore's involvement.
Talking of 'models' the 1969 Motor Show had the usual (back then) glamour models on the bonnet of one on their stand (next to Aston Martin's Stand).
Their advertising was novel too!

The golf is badged as a driver on the back, odd that wasnt deleted considering the effort made to make it look like a GTi. Leather interior, G60 arches and BBS alloys. Looks solid but paintwork is very tired.
As for the Jag, not my cup of tea but was immaculate.
Both outside a local garage so must have some issues.

Or maybe just being serviced? I think the Jag looks great on those discs. I wouldn’t discount the Golf either. A young chap I know has a similar ‘povo-spec’ one and he’s done a fantastic job on the engine. Goes like a rocket.

The Jag looks not unlike one I saw near Sevenoaks.

The Golf Driver was made to look like a GTi by the factory.

The Driver did look a bit more "GTi" than the base model but I don't think it ever came with the big bumpers or even alloys.

I think you're right (I think it was available as MkI as well), but people have always stuck 'better' wheels and badges on their cars. smile

Or even stick a Driver badge on the back of their GTI/G60.

Keep it stiff

How on earth would the Bond have got the M6 gig?

The mk1s were much more GTi-a-like

I know the Golf driver came new looking more GTI ish but not with big bumpers, red trimmed grill, G60 front arch trims, black leather GTi interior etc.
Was still a nice looking car from 10ft, reminds me of the 90s when auto trader was full of look a like GTi, GTE, RS Turbos and XR's.
