I can't confirm if it's a Merlin, although indications are that it is, but the car is fantastically epic. What a brilliant creation.
I know nothing about Merlins, but agree it’s fantastic. Love the rawness, and the curved treatment of the back end is great - much nicer than a boat tail or similar treatment that the builder could have opted for.

Not too keen on the creator using Wally Hassan's name in vain. He of the Hassan Bentley and XK engine fame.

Perhaps it's nothing to do with that Hassan..?

And maybe it's a respectful nod in tribute. Objecting to what the genius that built it named it seems odd to me.

I am indeed a little bit odd. Obtuse even. Objection withdrawn.

Either a Merlin, or perhaps a Meteor engine. Same 27 litres, but more usually seen powering tanks, such as the Centurion.

Two interesting spots in the New Forest today.

In Barton-On-Sea I saw a 1957 W180 Mercedes-Benz 220S (LHE 7). Never seen one outside of a car show before.

Near Bashley we saw a Ford Model T too. Sadly no pictures as I was driving.

yes, strangely made, one with nature ;-)

that merlin? engine, did me remember this one when we visit that guy Harry, who had some fantastic cars and a very special house, anyways, the car, this one was lovely.

me looking at the car's engine details >

me looking around it

He also started the thing and revved it, what a sound haha.

Then he said, come on, I have to show you something else, want to hear my other engine I'm working on, was also something special, but I forgot most, was I think about 13 years ago (time flies but we still have the pictures ;-) )

this was after a while (you still can see the smoke) with running engine, big flames and very very loud, what a monster machine hahah

and ow they sprayed something on it so it worked. He also had some very special cars, some hidden away (ofcourse we looked), worth more then many houses ;-) anyways, was a great day.

Another New Forest spot for me, and again a lack of photos (sorry!)

Spotted a Triumph 2000 estate in a dark red colour. Possibly a 2500S? Hadn't seen one of these in donkeys' years, and I didn't think there were that many of them around "back in the day". So I'm presuming it's a rare beast indeed, even if it's not a particularly desirable one...

The sun brought them all out today, including me! First up was a 1945 Field Marshall tractor, popping and banging along, it's a single cylinder five litre. Starts with a 12 bore cartridge - without shot, of course. The owner's local. So was the owner of a Daimler SP250 - he's in his nineties, I think. And then a TR3. Plus my Facellia. Lovely day. Oh, and our road isn't even a B-road.

I had a Mk2 2000 estate (white) back in the day. Manual with overdrive. One of the nicest cars I've ever owned. Mrs 404 wrote it off demolishing a stone pillar in Derbyshire.
In fact I had several of the big 6 Triumphs and I'm still a fan but I think you're right - I don't recall seeing many estates even then.
Edit: I even have a Mk3 GT6 in kit form right now in my garage but sadly it doesn't belong to me.

spotted a red ferrari testarossa cabrio, at a gas station today here in Almelo, I was driving bye one a 2 lane and busy at that time, so could not take a picture, but looked very cool and out of place between all cars from people going home coming from work etc.

never seen one in the wild before.

1986 BMW 735. Not sure it counts because it may be garage stock.

Spotted on a driveway in the New Forest. The 26 Engineer Regiment sticker caught my eye, and a chat with the owner's wife confirmed its a veteran of the 1991 Gulf War.
