Ing.Dallara said at the time that he, Ing.Stanzani and Bob Wallace took their inspiration for the first Miura chassis directly from the GT40, with another idea nicked from Issigonis in putting the V12 in the chassis transversely. Dicky C scores again
ETA : I bet it sounded nice.....
That's interesting, Nij, thanks. I read David Hodges' (Hodges's ?) book on the GT40 years ago - decades ago probably! - but I've never read about the Muira in any detail. ETA : I bet it sounded nice.....
It was weird, it just appeared next to me. Maybe he coasted in. And then he had such a job getting out and then filled both tanks and then I had to go. Hanging around awkwardly isn't my strong suit. He thanked me for my compliment and agreed to me taking a picture. There's only so much a roving correspondent can do. No, I didn't hear it.

We've just driven back from Abbotsbury and in the distance of 60 odd miles I've seen dozens of eye catching or noteworthy older cars. I can't remember all of them but the highlights were a very nice looking metallic green R reg Lancia Beta coupe, a white Cortina convertible with the green Lotus flashes down the sides (didn't look as naff as it sounds), a black MGA coupe and a 308 GTS Ferrari. No pics coz driving but it really added to an already nice drive.
My gf did manage a picture of this at Abbotsbury. Any ideas what it be?

Meant to post this last week - saw an F reg' ('67 / '68) Beetle convertible close to home which stood out from the crowd, a grey one with red hood, sounded like it had been given some engine / exhaust upgrades too, it was quite fruity for a bug.

What is it with the YY registrations on these - that Salvage Hunters one was a YY and there's one on the rotted thread in a London garden that is CYY, from memory ...https://www.oldclassiccar.co.uk/registrations/yy.h...
...in the past.
Current format is different, though...

...my Mondeo bears an 'EJ' area code, registered in Essex. Since I've owned it, it's been to Essex once. Spent most of it's life in Hampshire and Dorset. Many cars local to me bear 'HO' as the area code, for Bournemouth. I know this because local "curtain twitchers" reported my car as being "not local" to police during lockdown. But the second-hand car and lease market means that cars often don't remain local anymore. Think of 'WeBuyAnyCar' et al, purchasing vehicles then shifting them on through centralized auction sites, from where they can bomb burst to literally any part of the country. Not like the 1970s when adverts in local papers shifted most used cars locally and privately.

That’s beautiful. So much more elegant than much of the clumsy looking stuff that Bentley produces today Gassing Station | Classic Cars and Yesterday's Heroes | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
