928S in Golders Green

This is view is why they were sometimes called "The Land Shark"

It's good to see that the 928 has now been rehabilitated in the minds of petrol heads, for too long derided as "not a 911". Perhaps the advent of such monstrosities as the Cayenne and Panamera has helped? Also, I do prefer the S2 to the S4 the rear light clusters just fitted the shape better.
I think amongst car enthusiasts it was always entirely valuable in its own right and not in the shadow of the 911. I read somewhere that more F1 drivers owned these at the time than anything else. I had one for a brief period... it was an absolute shed, but a runner. I traded it on for less than 1500 but it went on fire not long after!!

That spider is pretty. But an MGB roadster is genuinely prettier and cheaper. Shows how much familiarity really can breed contempt.
I think that about Stags in particular. If they had an Alfa Romeo badge they'd cost five times as much and be virtually non-existent due to rust, Stag rust issues notwithstanding. Even the engine would be forgiven, because it would be seen as a highly-strung exotic instead of being compared to Triumph's other agricultural lumps.

I agree the Stag is far from faultless but what a stunning lookin car thumbup but I also think of the Rover P6 for a saloon car its a looker too cool

Those exhausts on that DeLorean look quite puny, never noticed before.

they are, but so were a lot of ones that age. The whole car looked small next to the Smart car next to it!

sold this for 2200 in 2004.....those are the actual advert photos - came up for sale last year by the chap who purchased it with minimal miles since I owned it and still with my screen demister pad in the under dash tray.....

and 16 years later (sadly no longer 2k...)

Not as clumsy or random as those bean-cans we have nowadays; an elegant exhaust system, for a more civilised age.

Exactly 928s really did hit rock bottom at one point. Unlike the similarly maligned 924/944 they were VERY expensive if something went wrong and had a terrible reputation for their "eccentric" electrical systems which not even Porsche seemed to understand or be able to fix reliably first time. Early 2000s they were going for very much the same money as 924s! I remember because I had a 924 at the time but my tape measure confirmed that the 928 just wouldn't fit in my single garage (unless I was prepared to ingress and egress through the rear hatch!) I stuck with the 924. Ho hum.

Actually just checked - I bought it in 2004 (5K from memory) and sold it 2008 which as you say was the probably the nadir for 928's - I replaced it with a mint 1999 840Ci which I bought for 11K sold for 6.6K in 2011. I tell my wife it's just that I'm ahead of the curve...

The exhausts on the Delorean must be good enough to get up to 88mph, that is all that is needed.....

With a massive 130hp from a 2.85 litre V6, just one of those would probably have done the job.

Sounds just like my brother's brand new Taycan Turbo, which Porsche seem unable to make work completely.

928S in Golders Green

Cadillac Brougham. I thought this was mid 70s but it transpires it was 1990!!

That 928 used to have a thick, dark line through the middle of it’s plates and when I see it always makes me think A BANANA, and the Cadillac had quite big holes in the tops of the rear wings where they meet the top of the tail lights, I couldn’t work out how it could have happened

The back of that series of 928 always reminds me of ET!

The wings aren't as long as they look, there's a plastic extension and it becomes brittle and can break easily. Sometimes they've been broken away or removed leaving a big gap to the tail lights. Replacement pieces are inexpensive.

Yep, that’s it, what an odd idea!

Not really a Porsche fan but always loved the 928 and especially the early 80s S and S2. Preferably with pinstripe velour interior.

Quick question for the Porsche beards: what are the main differences between the 928S and the S2?

Bit more power. I seem to recall the uk was the only market that bothered to give it a ‘2’ and ROW left it as ‘S’. Or something, IIRC.
