Spotted driving through town on Monday afternoon, a dream car of mine (particularly without the 'divisive' factory aero kit) cloud9

Strikes me as being the perfect balance of big enough/fast enough without becoming swollen or riddled with unnecessary M power tat (blacked kidney grilles, "carbon" mirrors etc etc), nice and subtle cool

Lovely Aston at a show near Harrogate yesterday

I'm often asked "What's the best car you've ever driven?", which is a dreadful question to be asked. My usual, stock answer is the closed version of one of these - an Aston Martin DB2/4 MkIII (often just called DB MkIII) which appeared at work one day with instructions to take it to a local specialist to get it running right. The journey out was terrible, as the thing wasn't running correctly and its brakes were binding. After fettling, the journey back (which may have involved a slightly less direct route) was sublime. It was quick, handled beautifully and felt absolutely at home amongst modern traffic.

If I'd have scraped together everything I had and borrowed a bit of money I could have (just) afforded to buy it, but common sense got the better of me. A similar one sold at Goodwood in September 2021 for £126,500.

I took my wife up to Cranborne on April 24th because the garden centre is nice and they had a "vintage fair" on. And the vintage fair seemed to have attracted a few classics...

Finished with our garden centre browsing we headed to nearby "open garden" to make the most of the road trip. Only when we got there it turned out that it didn't open until 2pm. So we schlepped the couple of miles back to Cranborne. On our second visit (for food this time) this wee beauty had arrived in the car park...

Sorry for the photo quality. The brightness of the day was playing havoc with my phone camera.

This pair of ?hot rods? was also sat up in the overflow parking paddock when we first arrived at Cranborne Garden Centre...

V8...

Not so much a "cool classic car" as a "rare survivor" period commercial vehicle conversion. Spotted in Bournemouth as I walked home from a spot of food shopping. A red traffic light held it long enough for me to fumble for my phone...

That is pure isn’t it. Elegant. Uncomplicated.
Essence of sports car.

I always thought that you weren't allowed to have uncovered wheels? (I'm assuming this was taken in the UK) Or do they have removeable cycle guards for running on the road?

I didn't think about it at the time, but now you mention it I think you may be right. Unless there are age exemptions from Construction And Use regs like fully faired wheels? It was most definitely taken in the UK. Cranborne in East Dorset.

It's a subject that has caused endless debate in hot rod circles over the decades...
A quick search of the reg's seems to be clear enough, but over time folk have found conflicting rules (like so many when the rule book evolves). Nowadays, it would seem to be mostly common sense... "does it cause a problem to others? - you are not supposed to flick stones or dirt about, or create spray in the wet...

Back when Rods were an almost regular sight, and police cars come to that, it was definitely illegal.

What an ignominious end to a lovely old car. Banger racing would have more dignity IMHO. But is it a real one? Please tell me it is a GRP copy,
then it would be fun.

It's just some panels as a frontispiece, not a vehicle.

Not a fan of the rubber bumper era but this looked like an honest daily (with a beige leather retrim - this wasn't a period colour was it?). One of the last on a V reg

1.8 mk 1 GTI with the period correct Pirelli alloys. 159k miles. I think it's mid resto at the garage that it's parked behind

The rubber bumper ones are growing on me - and I hated them when they came out. That plate though … I know why he’s done it but that doesn’t mean you should …

Possibly not a classic, but I’ve not seen one of these for ages.

Near Nantwich this afternoon.
