From memory the lighter cars had light grey bumpers which faded to off white very quickly.
The days before a anti UV additive was invented.....

I’ve been working in Rome this week and in the back streets, close to the Russian Embassy yesterday I saw this old girl.

Clearly been in a warm Italian climate and never seen salt. Almost certainly original paint, chrome, interior etc. and no obvious rust.

Real patina, rather than the contrived faux stuff. Lovely old thing. LHD and Italian plates give it a certain extra too.

Nice little (tiny!) Lancia in London E1 yesterday, unfortunately had a little dribble under its chin which looked like water pump, but the owner was confident he’d get home a few miles away. I hope so in the horrible traffic yesterday afternoon.

Lovely, but I think they look far better with their bumpers on. Looks like an unfinished project otherwise.

I agree, but rallying innit.

Also needs some colour: silver wheels would help. Gorgeous little cars though.

Agreed. It doesn’t need any extra help to look special. Rear ride height or wheel dimensions look a tad off too.

But at least it’s survived and is being cared for.

A very nice original and early example spotted today.

Oh, my!
I love that it has a tow hitch. What does the panel reckon about the MPG hauling a caravan?

It's a lovely old thing. There have been a few of these launch-spec cars with the taller door mirrors, open plenum, boot infill and on this Daimler no inlay in the veneers, posted on PH recently. It's good to see as they are so rare now. They're beautiful cars, very good to drive and almost criminally underrated in my view.

My guess at towing mpg - 12-14. Metric wheels too.

I quite liked the look of this Morgan today (lovely Oxblood leather interior).

This particular example is relatively modern, but the design is a classic.

In Suffolk today - looked so small - had to look up why it didn't have full width chrome grille - not a deluxe model

+1. The XJ40 is really coming into its own and they were a great car (albeit a few minor issues on early cars). When production was in full flow in 1989, this was Jaguars best ever year for sales since the company began.

I love the green on this particular example and remember the black panel on early Daimler and Sovereign versions.

It was just quietly sitting there, minding its own business, and just looked right.

A very pleasant contrast to most of the abominations in BMW’s current range
