Unrestored e-type rolling through Highgate - the very definition of patina…
I saw this in the car park of the Goodwood Members Meeting a couple of weeks ago. Clearly it is looked after and cherished. Mechanically (the bits I could see) looked to be in good order.

To me it looked fantastic. Far more interesting than the immaculately restored examples nearby (although I liked those too). One of my cars of the weekend.

I’m all for cars that are used, and look used, like this one amongst the many perfect versions.

But the idea that this car hasn’t had extensive work and has survived like this since the early 60s is fantasy imho.

Today I was out, no excuse, the weather was good, a bit sun and wind, so there I went, some nice road to that place, also went a big part through Germany and then again in the Netherlands again, I did not know my navigation would took me there, but no borders and about 10km shorter.

at one point I thought hey, these are not Dutch houses hehe also many country houses, some live good away from big cities.

There was a oldtimer/youngtimer day in a small place called Klazienaveen, also with tractors and bikes and so on, at some big field, I did not stayed long and when I wanted to go back home, it became so busy that it was hard to get out... also many many people started to come in, say more tourist so parking on both ways of that small street, only one car could go through... but many happy faces I saw so it was good, I took 30 pictures of some cars, the first 10 I upload now, the next ten tomorrow etc.

Brommers kieken they say in NL, some people think they are forever young hehe

also a nice Lancia Monte Carlo

A couple today, driving so no pictures:

A 1966 black Porsche 912 in Loughton looking lovely and used.

A Mercedes 190SL with the roof down in Wanstead also looking pretty splendid.

Corvette (? Any idea of year?) being recovered in Northallerton.
Blurry as we were a few cars behind.

It's somewhere in the '68 - '72 range being a C3 with both front and rear chrome bumpers. There are differences within those years that would narrow it down further but hard to tell from a quick look at the pictures.

Mercedes old and new in London yesterday. Looks like he's hit something with the front plate!
Does the owner have to pay the ULEZ charge every day as its parked on the road, or only on the days he drives it ?

Neither because it is exempt being more than 40 years old. smile

If it were neither exempt nor compliant, then ULEZ is only charged if the car is driven.

Many years ago I was at a car show that had a Monte which had been retrofitted with a Dino V6. There was a company in the UK at the time who sold an upgrade package of an Alfa V6 and I wonder if that one is one of those cars.

But it would still be liable for the congestion charge if driven in that zone as there is no exemption for historic vehicles. Although apocryphally those cameras cannot read white on black plates. Not sure if that is true, but I did once forget to pay the charge in a car with black plates and never got fined.

Another (490 JLC), formerly Elton John’s and Alan Sugar’s apparently, was at Cliveden at the weekend.

Suddenly all the anachronistic white on black plates make sense.

When you look at that R25 in isolation (and frankly any of Robert Opron’s designs) it’s really elegant.

Never appreciated them at the time.
