A radiator blind?
The radiator faces the left (n/s) wheel arch. I sold a Mini one once to a bloke at an autojumble. Like this one - Mk1! He was so excited I thought he was going to have a little accident.

Although it has been over 30 years since I had my head under the bonnet of a Maxi, I -thought- there were ventilation holes in the inner wing for airflow.
Or was it just rust?

Chesterfield 1979, was bit confused about the car, thought it may be a Wartburg, but I think it is a Maxi with embellishments......
It's the original 1500cc Austin Maxi (identified by the manufacturers name spelt out across the bonnet). It was replaced in late 1970 by a revised version (including an additional 1750cc version) without the troublesome cable-operated gearbox.
Mind you, the replacement rod-operated version was awful when it wore out.

Unusual in having the steering wheel on the right. Doesn't seem overly large either. Is it possibly of Australian manufacture though the setting is evidently British.

This picture of Foley Motors is ace. I lived 150 yds away for the first 12 yrs of my life and was born in 1967. I would cycle there alone and push my face against the glass. It was owned by a local family who then became a Colmore Depot selling Fiats, Ferrari’s etc. The street next to it was where the musician Clifford T Ward grew up. Local rumour was that Rod Stewart purchased a Lamborghini or Ferrari there. They used to rent cars and the owners set up Foley Car Rentals and Foley Self Drive.
This and the nearby scrap yard have a lot to do with my love of cars.

Just found this photo ,taken during a visit to Capri in the late sixties/early seventies.
On first glance I thought the taxis may be American but I think perhaps they are Fiats which have been decapitated nd then had a "Surrey roof" added.
Also looks like an electric vehicle on the left of the picture.
