Is the white saloon next to the Allegro in this one something Italian (possibly a Lancia)? Photo is from August 1976.

Not a Lancia.

Looks like a Simca 1501 to me.

We have a winner! 1301 or 1501. Same body.

Knightsbridge heading up to Hyde Park Corner, Harrods behind us on the right. I know the date so see if you can work it out...

1979 ?

could be 1980, but not a single Metro or Mk3 Escort in sight.

Yep, winter of 1979/80 seems about right to me.

Yup, you're all bang on. Jan 1979. I thought the bit of small hatchback you can see in the middle lane right at the bottom of the frame, in front of the Audi with the passenger door open, was a Metro but this pic was taken a year and 10 months before it was launched.

Nice Scimitar at the crossing heading away from us and the Germans accounted for by the aforementioned Beemer, a couple of Audi's and a Merc S Class under the lamp post to the right of the turning taxi though strangely no VWs.

Peugeot's represented as well - 504 next to the Audi with the door open, a 104 I think in front and to the left of the Scimitar, and I think a white 304 behind the turning taxi.

Could it be a Chevette estate?

The Alfa looks like a 2600 coupe, bigger than the GT. Are the pop ups a Matra 530?
Bit late to the party, but I think the Alfa is a 1750 GTV, series 1. The photo is distorted making it look wider.
The seats look like the unique bat wings only used on the series 1.

Postcard views of Bergedorf - West in Hamburg in the late 60s. Of course every other car is a Volkswagen but there's a reasonable choice of other stuff too.
